The right of every student to take an academic leave from a university or other educational organization is fixed at the legislative level. In most cases, obtaining a specialty lasts several years. During this period, various circumstances may arise due to which a person will not be able to attend classes and absorb knowledge properly.

For such situations, the legislator has provided the opportunity to take a break from study.

Concept and legislative regulation

Academic leave is a certain time period that is given to a student upon application to resolve circumstances that have arisen that impede normal study.

Law “On Education” No. 273 establishes the obligation for each student to fully master the curriculum, in accordance with his chosen specialty, and to comply with the rules established in the educational institution.

Thus, every student or graduate student undertakes to attend classes and take part in the public life of the university. Missing these events is possible due to extenuating circumstances, documented. For example, in case of a short-term illness, the student provides a certificate from a medical institution.

But a citizen may have circumstances that prevent him from attending classes and learning the necessary material for a long time. For such cases, the student is provided with academic leave. Such an exemption can be issued if there is documentary evidence of valid grounds.

This procedure is regulated in detail by Order No. 455 of the Ministry of Education, which establishes the rules for the provision of this measure. This type of exemption from classes is possible only in educational institutions of secondary vocational or higher education in specialties that require long-term training.

If a student takes a course for a period of one year, it makes no sense to arrange such a vacation.

Important! A citizen has the right to apply for this procedure at any time. But it is necessary to take into account the specifics of the training program. If the leave is taken in the middle of the semester, the person will have to go through the program again from the beginning of this time period after returning. If you submit your application after the session, you will not have to re-study.

Reasons for providing

A break is granted if the applicant has the following reasons:

  1. For medical reasons:
    • Due to exacerbation of a chronic disease;
    • Due to the need for surgical intervention;
    • For rehabilitation after injury;
    • If the disease has developed and requires long-term treatment;
    • Due to deterioration in general health requiring restoration.
  2. For family reasons:
    • Due to the loss of parents;
    • For pregnancy and childbirth;
    • Newborn care;
    • Due to the illness of a minor child who is under the care of the applicant;
    • Due to the need to care for a disabled parent or other family member;
  3. For other reasons:
    • In connection with conscription for military service;
    • Due to the need to complete an internship abroad;
    • Due to difficult financial condition;
    • Due to the need to combine work and study;
    • Due to a natural disaster or other emergency.

Regardless of the basis, the applicant must provide documented evidence of the reason why they require a break.

Important! Contrary to popular belief, this procedure cannot be implemented without good reason. “Academic” is not provided, for example, if a student is trying to avoid expulsion in this way due to poor academic performance or absence from classes.

Registration procedure

The procedure for implementing this procedure is regulated by order of the Ministry of Education and Science No. 455. This regulatory legal act prescribes a break from study if the following documents are available:

  • statements;
  • official paper that confirms the presence of a valid reason.

After submitting the documentation package, the application is reviewed by the dean of the faculty within 10 days. If the request is granted, an order is issued recording the fact of providing rest to the student. In accordance with this document, the citizen is excluded from the lists of the faculty. He will not be able to attend classes or receive other educational services until the end of the temporary period provided to him.

According to the order of the Ministry of Education and Science No. 455, this type of exemption can be granted for a period of no more than two years and an unlimited number of times.

Since an unforeseen situation that would cause a break in studies can happen at any time, there are no restrictions. A 1st year student can also take advantage of the right to take “academic” for 1 semester.

Attention! Despite the fact that the legislation does not contain any prohibitions, a student may be refused due to the presence of debts in disciplines. A break may also be provided with the condition of handing over the “tails” at the end.

The registration procedure and package of papers will vary depending on the valid reason.

For family reasons

The legislation does not specify family circumstances under which the procedure can be implemented. Determining whether a reason is valid is at the discretion of the faculty dean or rector.

If a student plans to take a break due to the illness of a family member or to care for a small child, he must attach supporting documentation to the application. It could be:

  • extract from the patient's card;
  • referral for surgery;
  • document confirming the presence of disability;
  • health certificate;
  • referral for treatment or rehabilitation;
  • other similar documentation.

If it is not possible to obtain a supporting document, the competent authority of the educational institution has the right to release the citizen from study at its discretion.

For pregnancy


Pregnancy and childbirth are one of the most common reasons for providing an “academy”. To implement the procedure, the student must adhere to the following algorithm of actions:

  1. Obtain from a gynecologist a certificate of pregnancy in form 095/U.
  2. Submit this paper to the rector's office or dean's office.
  3. Receive a referral for a medical examination.
  4. Visit a medical institution at your place of temporary or permanent residence and submit the following documents:
    • Referral from the university;
    • Student ID;
    • Record book;
    • An extract from the card confirming registration due to pregnancy;
    • Certificate in form 095/U.
  5. Pass a medical examination and receive a conclusion.
  6. Write an application and attach to it the conclusion of the medical commission.
  7. Wait for the decision of the faculty dean or rector.

Note! At the end of the provided period, academic leave can be extended to 6 years due to the need to care for a child.

For medical reasons


The legislator does not establish a list of diseases and injuries for temporary exemption from study, so in each case the situation is considered separately. In most cases, this measure is provided due to the need for long-term treatment and rehabilitation.

To implement the procedure, the applicant must:

  1. Contact your doctor and get a certificate in form 095/U.
  2. Submit it to the competent department of the university and receive a referral to a medical commission.
  3. Visit the clinic at your place of permanent or temporary residence, providing the following documents:
    • Direction;
    • Student ID and grade book;
    • An extract from the medical card from the attending physician;
    • Certificate in form 095/U;
  4. Get examined and get a conclusion.
  5. Write an application and submit it to the competent department of the university, attaching the commission’s conclusion.

Important! Students who were released from studies due to this circumstance are entitled to compensation payments in the amount of 50 rubles monthly. To receive the accrual, you must contact the dean’s office, fill out an application and attach a copy of the order for permission to leave.

Due to conscription for military service


Persons studying full-time are exempt from conscription for military service. However, this rule does not apply to correspondence students. A citizen subject to conscription must undergo all procedures at the military registration and enlistment office, in particular the medical commission, which recognizes him as fit.

After that, he will be given a final summons with a date and a requirement to appear for military service. This document, together with the application, must be submitted to the competent authority of the university a.

What is a sabbatical leave?

Academic leave is a period for which an educational institution gives a student temporary permission to stop receiving education (higher or secondary vocational). Academic leave is granted on the basis of valid reasons that make full-time study impossible. A student who has received an academic leave of absence is not considered expelled.

Academic leave is granted:

- students;
- cadets;
— graduate students;
- adjuncts;
- residents;
- trainee assistants.

What laws regulate the procedure for granting academic leave?

Academic leave is granted on the basis of clause 12, part 1, art. 34 of the Federal Law of December 29, 2012 No. 273-FZ “On Education in the Russian Federation”, which came into force on September 1, 2013. This is a basic legislative act that establishes the right of students to receive academic leave.

Specific provisions for granting academic leave are established by by-law - Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia dated June 13, 2013 No. 455 “On approval of the procedure and grounds for granting academic leave to students.”

The Order has an Appendix - “Procedure and grounds for granting academic leave to students” . This is the main document that determines the solution to most issues related to the academician.

But to resolve some specific issues, it is necessary to turn to other sources. Thus, closely related to obtaining an academic degree due to pregnancy are the issues of granting maternity leave, as well as parental leave until the child reaches the age of three years. This issue is not disclosed in the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia dated June 13, 2013 No. 455, therefore it is resolved on the basis of the already mentioned Federal Law “On Education”.

Issues related to deferment from army conscription during academic leave are regulated by Art. 24 of the Law “On Military Duty and Military Service”.

Issues related to the payment of scholarships are regulated by Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation dated August 28, 2013 No. 1000.

How to take a sabbatical?

The algorithm for obtaining an academic degree is as follows:

  1. You collect documents confirming extenuating circumstances due to which you have to interrupt your studies.
  2. Write an application addressed to the rector of the educational institution.
  3. Please attach documents supporting your request to your application.
  4. Submit an application with documents to the rector’s office.

What documents are required to apply for academic leave?

To apply for academic leave, you must provide along with the application documents proving that the student is unable to attend classes. Depending on the circumstances, these may be:

— medical certificates 027/U and 095/U;
- summons from the military registration and enlistment office;
— other documents (for example, confirming the illness of a relative, an invitation to study abroad, etc.).

On what grounds can academic leave be granted?

The application for academic leave must indicate on what basis the student requests a break from studies. The circumstances on the basis of which academic leave is granted can be divided into conditional and unconditional.

Unconditional circumstances include:

— medical indications that prevent the continuation of education and confirmed by the conclusion of a medical commission (including pregnancy);
- conscript military service.

The conditional ones are:

- family circumstances;
- other circumstances.

Here the management of the educational institution decides how valid the reasons are that prompt the student to interrupt his studies.

Student, remember: problems with passing the exam are not a justification for the academician! If you have given up on studying, take care of very convincing, preferably unconditional, justifications for receiving academic leave. The rector’s office will definitely find out how you are studying, and if they suspect you of trying to avoid a well-deserved expulsion, they may ignore family and especially “other” reasons for your application.

Is it necessary to somehow confirm the justifications specified in the application for academic leave?

Necessarily. The rector's office will not take your word for it, even if you submit your application on crutches or show obvious signs of being nine months pregnant. Please note that even in the case of unconditional medical indications, certificates must be prepared according to the rules (forms 027/U and 095/U).

As they say, “without a piece of paper you are a bug.” It is impossible to fight the university bureaucracy; you have to play by its rules.

Where can I download a sample application for academic leave?

An application for academic leave is written according to the usual standard. Indicated:

— position and full name of the head of the educational institution;
— information about the applicant (including information about the faculty, specialty, group);
— the word “Statement” is placed in the center;
- a request for academic leave is stated from a new line;
— the justification for its provision is indicated, along with a list of attached documents;
— the date for drawing up the application is set;
— the document is completed by the applicant’s signature.

How long is the sabbatical leave?

Maximum duration of the academy – two years. Most often, the student is given a year. If the problems that led to the interruption of studies have not disappeared, you can take another academic leave.

How many times can you take academic leave?

You can take an academic course as many times as you want (but only if you provide compelling reasons). The law does not limit a student’s number of academic leaves.

Is it possible to extend academic leave?

Strictly speaking, academic leave is not extended; if necessary, a new one is simply taken. But in colloquial speech and even in legal advice they often talk about extending academic leave, so you can use this expression.

You just need to remember four important things:

— if an extension is necessary, a new application for academic leave is written;
— documents are again attached to the application confirming the existence of valid circumstances forcing the student to interrupt his studies (that is, the whole procedure is repeated);
— a budget place is guaranteed to be reserved only for the first academic;
— the deferment from conscription applies only to the first academic leave.

Who decides on granting academic leave?

This decision is made by the head of the educational institution (usually the rector). An authorized official can also make a decision. In any case, the legislation allows 10 days from the date of receipt of the application for academic leave to make a decision.

Can they refuse to grant academic leave?

The management of the educational institution has the right to refuse the applicant if it considers the circumstances that prompted him to take a break from studying are not convincing enough.

How to take academic leave for medical reasons?

Academic leave due to illness is quite easy to obtain, since medical indications are considered the most objective grounds for a break in study. But not every illness can justify the need for an academician. The decision as to whether a student can continue studying or whether he needs a break to recover his health is made by a medical commission.

Documents required to consider this issue:

1) certificate of temporary disability (form 095/U);
2) extract from the medical history (form 027/U).

You should contact the management of the educational institution with these documents, who will give you a referral to undergo a medical examination. Usually the commission takes place at the student clinic. If the medical expert commission recognizes the need for a break in the educational process, the university provides the student with an academic.

Do they provide academic leave for non-medical reasons?

Yes, such a possibility exists. You can get an Academy:

- if you wish to serve in the army by conscription;
— in case of family circumstances forcing the student to postpone further education;
— in other cases when objective reasons prevent the continuation of education.

The concept of “other circumstances” is very broad, but it should be taken into account that the university may consider them insufficient to grant academic leave. For example, an invitation to work or study abroad can be regarded as both a valid and disrespectful reason, depending on the position of the administration. It happens that students are even provided with an academy so that they can participate in a television show. But this is the good will of the leadership of the educational institution, and not a rule.

We also note that for students who study well, it is easier to get an academic degree due to other circumstances. If a student has problems with his studies, the rector’s office may consider an application for the provision of an academic position as an attempt to evade the session.

Is it possible to take academic leave during pregnancy?

Pregnancy is a medical condition and is an unconditional circumstance justifying academic leave. To go on academic leave due to pregnancy, you must:

— receive a certificate in form 095/U and an extract from the outpatient card of the antenatal clinic about registration due to pregnancy;
— apply with these documents to the dean’s office or rector’s office of the educational institution;
— receive a referral to undergo a medical expert commission (usually it is carried out at the student clinic);
- pass the commission;
— attach the commission’s decision to the application for academic leave.

Is it possible to extend academic leave to raise a child up to three years?

In the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia dated June 13, 2013 No. 455 “On approval of the procedure and grounds for granting academic leave to students,” there are no special instructions on the provision of academic leave for the purpose of raising a child. But clause 12, part 1, art. 34 of the Federal Law of December 29, 2012 No. 273-FZ “On Education in the Russian Federation” provides for the observance of women’s rights regarding the receipt of leave to care for a child up to three years old (in accordance with the general provisions of current legislation).

How to extend academic leave in practice? The algorithm is simple:

1) receive your first academic degree during pregnancy (for two years);
2) after the expiration of the first academic year, you submit an application for the second one - for family reasons (for another two years).

Is academic leave granted for family reasons?

Yes, this is a fairly common reason for getting an academic degree. For example, the justification may be the need to raise a child, care for a seriously ill relative, or even a difficult financial situation in the family. All these and other family circumstances must be documented.

But keep in mind that the management of the educational institution has the right to refuse a student. When making a decision, the current circumstances in the student’s life are taken into account, and the objectivity of the reasons prompting them to interrupt their studies is analyzed. The decision in each case is made individually: one student may be given an academic permit, and another, under the same circumstances, may be denied. For example, a refusal may be caused by the suspicion that the student is just trying to solve problems with the session.

Sometimes the university offers an alternative solution to the issue: for example, if a student has a difficult financial situation forcing him to work, he may be advised to transfer to the correspondence department.

Is there a sabbatical leave for military service?

It would seem, why would a full-time student take an academic course for conscription service? You graduate from high school or are expelled, then you will serve. However, in some cases, students prefer to take a break from the educational process and serve in the army - usually for the purpose of a future career. In this case, you can take a student on the basis of a summons from the military registration and enlistment office, and then return to the university.

Is it possible to take a sabbatical during the first year?

You can take an academic course at any stage of your studies. The legislation does not place restrictions on this issue, since health problems or other circumstances that impede learning can arise at any time.

You just need to remember that the university management treats students taking academic leave in their first year with special attention and especially carefully analyzes the rationale for the application. Is it possible to take a sabbatical leave in the fifth year?

Yes, you can take an academic leave in the 5th year. Is it possible to get an academic leave if you have academic debt?

In most cases it is impossible. But the university can accommodate the student halfway if there are clearly objective reasons for receiving academic leave. For example, if a student with debt received a severe injury during an additional session, he may be provided with an academic loan on the condition of handing over the “tails” after its completion. Or, as an option, give an academic leave with a transfer to a course below.

Is the stipend paid during academic leave?

This issue is regulated by a special by-law - Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation dated August 28, 2013 No. 1000 “On approval of the Procedure for assigning a state academic scholarship and (or) state social scholarship to students studying full-time at the expense of budgetary allocations from the federal budget, state scholarships for graduate students, residents, assistant trainees studying full-time at the expense of federal budget allocations, payment of scholarships to students of preparatory departments of federal state educational organizations of higher education studying at the expense of federal budget allocations.”

According to paragraphs. 13 – 14 of this Order, the grounds for termination of payment of scholarships (both state academic and social) are:

— expulsion from an educational institution;
— academic debt;
— receiving a “satisfactory” grade during the session.

Academic leave is not included in the list of reasons for which the payment of a scholarship is terminated. Being in an academy in itself does not create academic debt. So if you received only “good” and “excellent” in all subjects during the previous session, and now you have taken academic, the scholarship will be paid.

Are any monetary compensations paid during academic leave?

A student who has received an academic degree on the basis of medical indications receives additional monetary payments in accordance with a special by-law - the Government Decree “On approval of the procedure for assigning and paying monthly compensation payments to certain categories of citizens.” True, cash payments during academic leave are small - only 50 rubles per month.

To receive compensation payments, you must submit an application with the relevant documents to the rector's office (you can indicate this point in the application for academic leave). Compensation begins to be paid from the date of granting the academic leave, if the application for it is received no later than 6 months from the date of granting leave. If the student comes to his senses after six months, payments will be received no more than 6 months from the day of the month in which the application for compensation was submitted.

Female students on parental leave until the child reaches the age of three receive a monthly allowance in accordance with Federal Law No. 81-FZ of May 19, 1995 “On state benefits for citizens with children” (with subsequent amendments and additions).

Is a student provided with a dormitory during an academic leave?

Complex issue.   • if the student is caring for a child, upon providing the child’s birth certificate;
  • if the student is caring for a sick close relative, he must provide a certificate with a medical report and that the treatment will be long-term and the patient needs constant care;
  • in case of deterioration in the financial condition of the family. In this case, the student must confirm this fact with a certificate of low-income status, a document indicating that the parents are not employed, or that the parents have a low salary;

Additional grounds and documents are possible that are specified in the Charter of the educational institution.

Medical indicators

If any diseases arise that require long-term treatment or rehabilitation, this is the basis for applying for academic leave.

Each citizen, when any illness occurs in the clinic, is issued a certificate of incapacity for work, which serves as the basis for release from work or study until full recovery.

Students receive a certificate in form No. 095u, which exempts them from the educational process for a period of ten days to a month of days.

If the disease is serious and treatment will take more time, then the certificate is issued in form No. 027, which is a referral to undergo a special medical examination, which will give its conclusion.

In a situation where a student, while studying at an institute or technical school, expresses a desire to interrupt the educational process for a while and go for military service in the army, then he is entitled to academic leave.

The official documents that must be submitted to the dean's office are the summons, which must indicate the place of call and the deadline for appearance.

The period for granting exemption from study is one year. If a student is on academic leave, then he should not have problems with the military registration and enlistment office, since he is officially registered at the educational institution.

The only caveat is that the academic leave should be no more than one year, otherwise the student may be drafted into the army and then continue education will be possible only after conscription.

Procedure for drawing up the document

The legislative framework

Academic leave is a period of time during which a student is released from studies on the basis of an order from the university in connection with certain life circumstances, for example, the birth of a child, confirmed by documents and with an application.

In this case, the student is not expelled from the university and his place is retained, as well as the previous conditions for receiving education, namely at the expense of budget funds or on a contract basis.

The right to receive academic leave is regulated by the norms of the Federal Law “On Education”, namely clause 12, part 1, article 34, according to which, every student can receive an exemption from classes for a certain period, but only on the grounds approved by regulations and Charter of the university. In particular, the list of grounds, conditions for granting, as well as the procedure for obtaining this type of leave are stipulated in Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation No. 455, but additional conditions related to the specifics of obtaining academic leave are already established by the Charter of the educational institution.

To whom and where can this type of leave be granted?

In accordance with clause 1 of Order No. 455, academic leave can be granted to students studying in educational institutions for the following educational programs:

That is, academic leave is granted in all educational institutions that provide secondary and higher education, and also train highly qualified personnel on the basis of Article 10 of Federal Law No. 273.

Also, as follows from the meaning of paragraph 1 of Order No. 455, academic leave is granted to all persons who study at the above institutions, regardless of the form of education, that is, students who receive an education have the right to this leave according to the following forms:

  • full-time;
  • part-time;
  • correspondence

That is, regardless of whether a student is a part-time student or is receiving a full-time education, if certain circumstances arise, he has the right to academic leave in the manner prescribed by law.

Reasons and circumstances

In essence, academic leave is a measure aimed at preserving the student’s right and opportunity to continue receiving education after the termination of the reasons that were the basis for exemption from studies, but subject to the following conditions:

In particular, grounds for the provision of this type of leave are established in Part 2 of Order No. 455 and they are:

  • medical indications;
  • family circumstances;
  • exceptional circumstances.

Medical

As a rule, when a disease occurs and a citizen goes to a medical institution, he is issued a certificate or, on the basis of which he is released from work or classes until full recovery. In the event of an illness occurring in a citizen who is studying at an educational institution, a certificate in accordance with the established procedure is issued. form No. 095у, which provides exemption from classes from 10 to 30 days.

If a student, due to the complexity of the disease, cannot recover completely within the agreed period, a certificate is issued according to form No. 027, which, in essence, is an extract for continuing education or a referral to a medical commission for examination, based on the results of which a medical report is issued.

That is, to receive academic leave for medical reasons you need provide three documents:

  • certificate No. 095у;
  • certificate No. 027у;
  • medical report.

The agreed documents will confirm not only the grounds for release, that is, injury or serious illness, but also the period required to restore health, especially if there is a long period of rehabilitation ahead, for example, six months or more.

Of course, no one is immune from the occurrence of family problems and deterioration in health, but circumstances may also arise that do not depend on the will of the parties and require a long absence. In particular, a student may be drafted into the army for military service, and the basis for granting academic leave will be a summons indicating the place of conscription and the deadline for reporting to the place of duty.

Procedure and deadline for provision

According to the norms of the law, namely Federal Law No. 273, the educational institution, as well as teachers, are responsible for the life and health of students, in turn, the student is obliged to carry out the curriculum, accordingly, any absence of a student from classes must be documented in writing in the manner prescribed by law, because he is responsible No one is interested in the injuries received by a citizen, or the lack of knowledge.

I would like to note one feature. Academic leave is provided only for good reasons, documented, and not for poor academic performance. And a student who will be absent for a long time due to vacation will continue his studies exactly from where he graduated, on the basis of a certificate that he will be given indicating the grades received and the hours of lectures.

  • imposition of a resolution by the dean on the application;

Drawing up an application

Despite the fact that a uniform procedure for applying for academic leave has been established at the legislative level, the application form for receiving it has not been approved, so in such a situation it is used free form in compliance with mandatory rules. List of documentation

Considering that the provisions of the law, namely in paragraph 2 of Order No. 455, there is a direct indication of confirmation of the grounds only in writing, when applying for academic leave, the student should provide a certain package of documents, which actually confirms the reason for going on leave.

In particular, if pregnant, the student will need to present a certificate from the antenatal clinic about her condition and the timing of the expected birth. If the student drafted into the army, then a subpoena will be needed, and if got sick or injured, then a medical report.

One more feature should be noted. As a rule, in order to apply for an academic leave, a student must appear at the dean's office in person, but he may receive a serious injury, as a result of which his movement will be limited. Order

After the application along with the documents is submitted to the dean’s office and a resolution is imposed on the agreed document, an order to grant leave is issued within 10 days from the date of receipt of the application, the form of which is approved by the Charter of the educational institution. The order specifies the grounds for granting leave, the period, as well as other conditions, for example, maintaining a place in a dormitory or providing monthly payments, provided for by Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 1206 in the presence of a medical certificate.

Some features

Of course, leave is not always granted for exactly the period that the student requires, because in some cases, the student himself does not know the cut-off date for the termination of the circumstances that served as the basis for receiving academic leave. In addition, it is worth considering the fact that there is an educational program with its own characteristics and other circumstances that affect the procedure for granting the agreed leave. That is why, at the legislative level, certain rules for obtaining vacations are provided, in particular the timing and quantity of their receipt.

For what period is it provided?

Thus, paragraph 2 of Order No. 455 states that academic leave can be granted for no more than 2 years, due to the fact that, after the specified period, the student will simply forget the acquired knowledge without practical training and he will have to start all over again or update his knowledge by retaking some disciplines.

Quantity

In accordance with clause 3 of Order No. 455, academic leave may be granted unlimited number of times, regardless of the reasons that served as the basis for taking an academic leave.

After all, a student can get sick, become pregnant or lose income within two years, given that life is unpredictable, so there are no restrictions.

Payment of scholarship

As a rule, the right to receive, as well as its amount and conditions are determined by the Charter of the educational institution. For example, in many universities, the size of the scholarship depends on the performance of students, as well as on the form of study.

That is, if a student studies on a budget scholarship, he is paid by the state, but if on a contract basis, then by the future employer, who pays for the education.

And since, on the basis of clause 6 of Order No. 455, tuition fees are not charged during the period of academic leave, then the scholarship is not paid accordingly. The same rule applies to students studying at the expense of the state, because they do not study, grades on the basis of which there is no grade, and accordingly there are no grounds for awarding a scholarship.

Various situations

Each educational institution has not only an educational program approved by the Ministry of Education, but also a curriculum, that is, an academic period and a vacation period, which is in principle the same for all universities. But life circumstances or illnesses do not choose a convenient time for a student’s absence from a university and happen at the most inopportune moment, which raises questions about how academic leave is processed in emergency or non-standard situations.

In the first year

For example, a student may get sick not only in the first year, but also during the first semester, get injured or be drafted into the army, which implies the need for an academic leave.

Early termination

Invitation to study or work. Not often, but they still occur when a student is invited to study, work, or some other event (for example, a television show) for a long period of time. In this case, the administration can also make concessions and provide academic leave.

In any case, to confirm certain family circumstances it is necessary to provide documents, and the more convincing they are, the better.

How to apply for academic leave

To apply for academic leave, you must provide other documents in addition to the application.

As mentioned above, to obtain leave for medical reasons, certificates 027/U and 095/U will be required. The illnesses themselves must be convincing and not raise doubts among doctors that students cannot attend classes. The easiest way to grant academic leave is due to pregnancy and childbirth.

Academic leave for family reasons is quite difficult to obtain without really serious reasons. In some cases, management suggests transferring to another form of education (for example, evening). For family reasons, I most often grant leave to mothers who are raising children under the age of three.

A difficult financial situation is also a reason for granting leave, but often the management also suggests changing the form of study so that the student has the opportunity to earn money for training. In other cases, you must be prepared for the administration’s refusal to grant academic leave.

If necessary, academic leave can be extended. To renew, you must collect the entire list of documents again and go through the entire procedure again. Otherwise, a decision may be made to expel the student in case of his absence.

Termination of academic leave
