No. 2. Muhammad Ali

Competed: 1960-1981 Total Fights: 61 Wins: 56 Wins by knockout: 37 Losses: 5 Draws: 0

Perhaps the most famous and renowned boxer in the world. He won the title “Boxer of the Year” 5 times and was recognized as the best boxer of the past decade. Ali became the Olympic champion in the heavyweight category. He held the world title in this weight, but was stripped of these titles due to the fact that he did not go to fight in Vietnam. Muhammad was considered invincible. The country tried to humiliate him, but this did not stop him from getting back on his feet and reaching such heights. After some time, he returned to the ring and continued his glorious path.

No. 1. Joe Louis

Competed: 1934-1951 Total Fights: 72 Wins: 69 Wins by knockout: 57 Losses: 3 Draws: 0

The greatest and best boxer in the world in history. Louis was very tall and everyone believed that it was impossible to defeat him, but he still had one defeat, from the German Max Schmeling, although the German was not happy about this for long, after some time, Louis took sensational revenge, defeating Max in just 1 round. Then he suffered 2 more defeats, but this was only due to the fact that he was not in the best shape, and he also had financial problems and could not maintain constant training. For everyone, Louis became an American symbol. Louis was especially present in the hearts of people just when the Second World War took place. As far as we know, during the war there simply would have been no one else who could have become a politically significant boxer like Joe Louis. Everywhere a lot of people crowded around the ring and the radio to learn about his fights with his opponents and this gave people at least some hope for the future and faith that everything would be fine in life. Joe Louis was the only boxer to be considered the best of any nationality.

It is impossible to accurately answer the question of who is the strongest boxer. Unfortunately, humanity does not have a chance to put Muhammad Ali and Tyson in a fight, for example, since they fought in different eras. In addition, Oscar de la Hoya cannot be compared with heavyweights, since he competed in a different weight category.

In the world of boxing, everything is relative, but there are certain facts that indicate that there were and are fighters worthy of full respect and honor. Below are the best boxers of the last hundred years, based on the statistics of their fights and the length of their appearances in the ring.

Muhammad Ali

This great boxer is a role model for some. It was he who always said that you should flutter like a butterfly and sting like a bee. In the ring, Ali confirmed his statement with action, destroying his opponents.

During his sports career, the boxer won 56 victories with 5 defeats. By the way, the political struggle in the United States is also associated with his name, since in his youth Mohammed Ali began to wage an open war against the oppression of people from other countries and continents in the United States. In the end, victory was on his side.

Joe Louis

A great boxer whose fights amazed the imagination more than half a century ago. During his career, he was able to win 66 times with 3 defeats. Joe Louis is a true symbol of America in the forties.

He had excellent fighting technique. This made it possible to perform in the ring even at retirement age, hitting opponents.

Sugar Ray Leonard

It is believed that after Muhammad Ali retired from boxing, it was Leonard who was able to maintain spectator interest in his sport. He was even called the “Boxer of the Decade” of the 80s.

Sugar Ray was distinguished by his attractive appearance, charm, and ability to communicate with people. These are extremely rare qualities for a boxer. During his career he won 36 victories, lost three times and drew one fight.

Carlos Monzon

Has the longest winning streak, which is very difficult to beat - more than 60 times. A native of Argentina was able to win 87 victories in his career, with 3 defeats. But he has 9 draws.

He died in a car accident immediately after being released from prison, where he spent 11 years.

Marvin Hetler

Dominated the middleweight division. He won 62 victories, lost three times and ended in a draw twice. He was distinguished by his tenacity and desire to restore justice in an honest way.

Roy Jones Jr

The most popular boxer of his time. He boxed in four weight categories at once, gradually gaining weight, since it was uninteresting to fight with opponents - he was too superior to everyone in strength.

During his career he won 55 victories, losing 8 fights. For the first time in history, he managed to become the winner of both the middle and heavyweight divisions. In the ring, he played with his opponent, bringing him to a state of knockdown, but giving him the opportunity to return to the fight. He has always had excellent reaction and endurance. He could play basketball for a professional team three hours before a fight, and then box for 12 rounds.

In the 90s of the last century he was recognized as “Boxer of the Decade”.

A documentary film about the most legendary and outstanding personalities of boxing, “World Boxing” captured truly historical people, whom it is simply impossible not to focus your attention on, as their careers were full of headlines in newspapers and magazines.

If we talk about tactics and fighting techniques, you can find more polished boxers, but it was the personalities depicted in the film who were remembered for their behavior in the ring and in life, as well as the power of their blows.

Such legends were Mike Tyson, George Foreman, and Roy Jones Jr. If we talk about what kind of blows should be, then you cannot find a better technique than Mike Tyson, he became especially famous for his “knockout” blow, which disabled opponents several times heavier and taller.

Roy Jones Jr. is inimitable with his behavior in the ring, he always gets into trouble, certainly clearly demonstrates that he is always open to a blow, but at the same time he never gives the opportunity to his opponent to touch him. According to reviews from close people and friends, he turns out to be the kindest and most open person, multifaceted in his talents and worldview, an actor both by profession and in the ring, when boxing, he shows the skills of a comedy actor. If it were the will of many fans and admirers of his boxing technique, then all films about boxing would be dedicated to him.

The third boxing legend to whom the film “World Boxing” is dedicated is George Foreman; this case is generally unique in its history, so it is simply impossible to miss this.

In his young years, Foreman had already begun boxing at world championships, but, nevertheless, having suffered a number of crushing defeats, he went to church, becoming a shepherd. Until 1987, he did not dare to return, saying that solitude with God was the only thing he needed. However, he finally made up his mind and, after going through a difficult path of rehabilitation and restoration of shape, he again became a champion. Foreman is now retired and back in the church, but who knows, perhaps he will soon return to boxing again.

Vasily Lomachenko/@TRAPPFOTOS

It's time to take stock of the outgoing 2017! Over the course of 12 months, boxing fans were able to see the defeats of long-time champions, the victories of young prospects, the interruption of unbeaten streaks and many other interesting events. We present the ranking of the 10 best boxers, regardless of weight category.

No. 1. VASILY LOMACHENKO (10-1-0, 8 KOs)

Boxer of the year according to XSPORT.ua. Note that before the fight with Guillermo Rigondeaux“High-tech” was not a contender for first and, possibly, second place. It was assumed that a victory over the Cuban would not be able to lift him to first place, since a boring chess battle was expected. However, the brilliant manner in which the Ukrainian won the victory became.

The year 2017 began for Lomachenko with an April fight with Jason Sosa. The boxer from Puerto Rico was unable to compete with the Ukrainian in terms of technique, speed and endurance. Vasily played with him, broke him up and forced him to refuse to continue the fight before the ninth round. Bitterness remained only because Hi-Tech was unable to win the WBA Regular championship title, which the boxing organization refused to put on the line.

In August, Vasily fought his second fight of the year. This time his opponent was Miguel Marriaga, who competed one category lower and lost earlier Nicholas Walters And Oscar Valdez. The opponent was not top-level, but all the strong opposition at that time either wanted a lot of money or were busy. The same infamous Orlando Salido constantly disrupted negotiations for revenge. In the fight with Marriaga, “High-Tech” very easily showed his superiority and forced his opponent to surrender before the 7th round.

The last fight for the Ukrainian was the fight against the Cuban Guillermo Rigondeaux, who bombarded Vasily with mockery and insults on Twitter. It was expected that it was “Jackal” who would be able to impose competition on the Ukrainian and even win. Of course, Hi-Tech had an advantage in height and weight, but this did not stop some experts from calling the Cuban the favorite. However, an equal fight did not work out and Lomachenko very easily outboxed his opponent and again forced him to surrender before the seventh round - for the 4th time in a row. The defeated opponent complained of a hand injury.

No. 2. TERENCE CRAWFORD (32-0-0, 23 KOs)

For the current year Terence Crawford was able to move from 6th to 2nd place in the XSPORT .ua rating. This success was made possible by the American winning the prestigious WBA and IBF titles, which allowed him to become the only absolute world champion in the super lightweight division.

Terence started the year with an easy win over Felix Diaz, and finished his performances back in August. The confrontation between the two champions turned out to be interesting, but fleeting. The Namibian decided to attack the American with a checker on his head and on the counterattack he missed enough punches to be knocked out in the third round. Note that Crawford will begin 2018 as a star featherweight boxer, where many attractive fights await him.

No. 3. SRISAKET SOR RUNGVISAI (44-4-4, 40 KOs)

Who knew before 2017 about the Thai boxer of the second flyweight weight (up to 52.1 kg) Srisakete Sor Rungvisai? There are few such people in the boxing world. Previously, Srisaket had only two high-level top fights. The Thai lost in the first Carlos Cuadras, and the second one won against Jose Salgado. In 2016, he had 5 fights, three of which were against debutants, and two against opponents with a rating in which there were more defeats than victories.

After this little-known Thai in 2017, he was invited to fight with the first number on the list of the best boxers, regardless of weight category Roman Gonzalez. The Nicaraguan boxer was expected to beat Sor Rungvisai very easily. However, Srisaket forced his hand on him and had a very even fight. After such a confrontation, the judges, to their surprise, gave the victory to the Thai. At the same time, boxing experts almost unanimously called it controversial.

In September of this year, Sor Rungvisai had a rematch with Gonzalez, and in order to cool the ardor of experts, .

No. 4. ANTHONY JOSHUA (20-0-0, 20 KOs)

About Anthony Joshua, as a new super heavyweight star, only the lazy don’t talk about him. The Briton makes his way to the boxing Olympus without defeat, and all victories were won by knockout. At the same time, he attracts full football stadiums of British fans.

In 2017, Joshua fought the most important fight of his career. At the famous 90,000-seat Wembley football stadium, Anthony met with the former Ukrainian king of heavyweight Vladimir Klitschko. Both boxers showed a brilliant performance, but the winner was the Briton, who, although he was knocked down, was able to win by technical knockout in the 11th three-minute period.

In October, Joshua's second fight took place as a replacement. Kubrat Pulev. Having the status of a favorite, Joshua treated Takam with disdain and underestimation. There was no sign of defeat for the British, but during the battle he was slow and less dangerous than usual.

No. 5. KEITH TURMAN (28-0-0, 22 KOs)

Undefeated American welterweight Keith Thurman in 2017 he entered the ring only once. The American fought his fight back in March, defeating the dangerous and.

Dirty and tough, Garcia was always considered a favorite of the judges, since even for ordinary fights he received a victory on the cards of most referees. After the fight with Thurman, he also raised his hands in the air, confident of his victory. This despite the fact that he looked worse than Thurman. Keith was faster, smarter and more versatile than his opponent, which earned him a place in the top 10 boxers of 2017.

No. 6. GENNADY GOLOVKIN (37-0-1, 33 KOs)

Kazakhstan Dominator Gennady Golovkin fell one position over the year and became sixth in our ranking. This minimal drop was influenced by his fights in 2017. First, in March, GGG won a controversial decision against Daniel Jacobs, who became a very dangerous and inconvenient opponent for the Kazakh.

If after the fight with the American the judges helped Golovkin, then in the fight in Saul Alvarez in September they interfered. Against Alvarez, Gennady looked less technical and fast. But due to the pressure, he had an advantage in accurate hits and pressure. However, the judges were adamant and gave it a draw.

Twitter HBO

No. 7. SAUL ALVAREZ (49-1-2, 34 KOs)

The Mexican superstar, in addition to the fight with Golovkin, had another super fight this year. In May, Alvarez met with Julio Cesar Chevez Jr.. The son of a great champion from Mexico promised that he would give a worthy rebuff to Canelo, but he came out just to earn money. Saul destroyed his opponent with powerful hits and brought the fight to victory by decision.

Note that in the future, Usik should be higher in the rankings, regardless of weight categories. However, now Alexander is suffering due to the lack of stars in the cruise weight. To be more precise, there is one star and that is himself. To advance to the top positions, a Ukrainian must become the owner of the majority of heavyweight belts and successfully move to the heavyweight division.

Karen AGHABEKYAN, website

The best boxers in the history of mankind were able not only to contribute to the development of the sport, but also changed attitudes towards this sport. When mentioning such names as Mike Tyson, Ali, Jones, many immediately have a lot of associations in their heads due to the spectacular nature of the fights of these fighters. But you need to understand that the success of most people is determined not so much by their merits as by the respect of the crowd for the person’s personality. Many famous boxers are respected precisely for their actions and attitude towards boxing. We propose to consider an independent rating of the most outstanding boxers in the world of all time.

The best boxers in the world in history

10

The Top 10 opens with Roy Jones Jr., who competed from 1989 to 2011. Out of 55 fights, he managed to win 40 victories. At the same time, he suffered 8 defeats. During his brilliant existence in the ring, Roy was able to win 7 belts. Over the past 106 years, he was the only one who managed to win the world in both middle and heavy weight. I started my career, naturally, on average. As a junior. In the 90s he was recognized as the boxer of the century. Each fight was spectacular and interesting for the public.

Marvin Hagler was clearly not included in the ranking of the best boxers in the world for his beautiful eyes. He was a real beast in the ring. He fought 65 fights, winning 52 of them. 2 draws and 3 losses. He performed from 1973 to 1987. It should be added that Marvin has the highest percentage of winnings by knockout. In my opinion, it was this man who fought the most spectacular fight in the history of world boxing. Surely, true boxing fans understood that we are talking about a confrontation with Sugar Ray Leonard. In this confrontation, Marvin defeated the legend!

The next best boxer in the world is Sugar Ray Leonard with 36 wins. Completed 25 appearances with a victory. He lost three times and once the fight ended in a draw. He performed from 1977 to 1997. It was this boxer who managed to fill the void in this discipline after Muhammad Ali. Was able to receive the title of boxer of the decade. He never backed down from fighting the best. Actually, it was only with such athletes that I saw the point of fighting for first place.

A very talented boxer from Argentina who managed to win 59 fights by knockout. An impressive figure, don’t you agree? A total of 87 victories. At the same time, there were 9 draws and only 3 defeats. And he realized this indicator from 1963 to 1977. In just 14 years, Carlos managed to go down in the history of world boxing as an athlete with one of the longest victories. He suffered all 3 defeats on points, and in his first 20 appearances. Won about 60 times in a row.

103 victories

Among the best boxers in the world is Roberto Duran, who won 103 times. Of these, he finished 70 fights in his favor by knockout. He suffered only 16 defeats, most of them early in his career. He performed from 1968 to 2001. For about 30 years it remained unsurpassed. No one could find him a worthy opponent. It is enough to watch a few of Duran's performances to understand why he enjoys such authority among other boxers. It was he who managed to rebel against the young star Leonard. He released the revenge not only beautifully, this fight was brilliant and it deservedly went down in the history of world boxing.

2 draws, 10 losses, 29 knockouts and 44 wins - this is the indicator of completed fights of Evander Holyfield. However, he ended up in this rating not at all because of his dynamics of victories and defeats. Evander can be called one of the best boxers in the world of all time because he deserves the respect of both fans and boxers. Mike Tyson's eternal opponent is willing to enter the ring against him even at 51 years old. We can talk about him non-stop. He always dominated his opponents, always responded to challenges. I gave myself completely to every fight. Great fighter!

173 victories

Just imagine, over a 25-year career, this boxer managed to carry out 175 fights, of which he completed 109 performances by knockout in his favor. A total of 19 losses and 6 draws. One of the most talented boxers in history. He had simply unimaginable physical strength. His strong character and strong chin allowed him to instill fear in every opponent he encountered in the open spaces of the ring. Sugar Ray is the owner of a famous club in Haarlem, sang, danced and easily delighted the public when he appeared in the ring.

Another amazing boxer who made history with a hundred knockouts. In total, he won 150 times and ended in a draw 9 times. Lost 21 fights. He performed for 14 years from 1931 to 1945. He is the first boxer to achieve 3 championship belts at once. However, he could have gotten the fourth, but it was all because of the draw against Garcia. Many sports fans to this day consider this ending to the fight to be an unfair decision. It is worth noting that Henry’s career did not start in the best way.

Of course, everyone can make their own rating of anything. Including the best boxers in the world in the entire history of boxing. However, many will agree that it is really so important how one rating of boxers differs from another. The only important thing is that all these athletes have shown and are showing all people how great the will to win can be and that every person is capable of achieving truly great heights.

Certainly a man who deserves to be at the top of any list of boxing legends. Unfortunately, recently Cassius Marcellus Clay - and this is the real name of Muhammad Ali - left us. However, he left behind the main thing - the goal to which boxers of all countries and generations have strived and will strive.

Starting his career at an early age among teenagers, he quickly began to gain one victory after another, while training hard and persistently. Such perseverance helped him in the future win Gold at the Olympics in Rome in 1960, and then win many other titles. In the ring, Clay often behaved defiantly, but this is exactly what the public liked. He gained fame as a world boxing star and remains so, despite the fact that he stopped performing in the ring a long time ago.

Along with black politicians and actors, Muhammad Ali contributed to racial equality and the recognition of African Americans as equal members of society.

Another black boxer, also with scandalous fame, but also made a huge contribution both to boxing as such and to the promotion of it as a sport. Even those who are very far from sports know him. Tyson's name has become a household name.

Tyson holds several world records that have not been broken to this day. With a height of 178 cm and a weight of more than 90 kilograms, he looked in the ring like a real monster and a machine that could not be stopped. Indeed, he won most of his fights by knockout. And many people remember that very scandalous fight in which he bit (as journalists wrote, “bit off”) Holyfield’s ear.

As a professional heavyweight, he fought 58 fights (216 rounds), of which won at 50, and won by knockout - 44.

Vladimir and Vitali Klitschko are, of course, significant figures in the world of modern boxing. Both are world heavyweight champions. Both made significant contributions to the promotion of boxing and a healthy lifestyle, as well as to charity.

Vladimir Klitschko had 68 fights, of which he won 64 and 53 by knockout. Out of 47 fights, Vitaly won 45, of which 41 by knockout. Perhaps the most significant fight in the brothers’ careers was Vitaly’s fight with the American-Nigerian boxer Samuel Peter. It was then that the brothers became simultaneous heavyweight champions according to various boxing organizations. According to them, this is exactly what they dreamed of all their lives.

Currently, Vitali Klitschko is involved in politics, and his brother is involved in public life and still in sports and is reluctant to comment on Vitali’s political career.

The bright, expressive fights of Roy Jones invariably attracted not only boxing fans, but sometimes also people far from this sport. He holds the record of simultaneously holding seven championship belts. He is currently a sports commentator, but from time to time he still returned to the ring to show that it was too early to write him off. However, in March 2016, Jones announced that he had decided to focus on his social life as well as music.

An interesting fact is that Roy Jones is both a citizen of the United States and Russia.

It is possible that someone will compare this boxer with the name Rocky Balboa. And this is true: the prototypes of the movie hero were many famous boxers, including Marciano.

He is best known for never losing a single fight. He didn't even have anyone's. AND 43 wins by knockout. He even fought with the legendary Joe Louis, whom he defeated in the 8th round. But in 1955, due to back problems, he was forced to stop his sports career and died in a plane crash that same year.

Almost no boxing rating is complete without the legendary Joe Louis. According to Mohammed Ali himself, it was Louis who was his idol for a long time. Competing from 1934 to 1951, he was a symbol of America and made an invaluable contribution not only to sports and professional boxing, but also to politics and international relations. It was thanks to Joe Louis that many African Americans believed that black people could achieve something in this life.

Of course, many will remember him as the one whose ear was bitten by Mike Tyson. However, this is not what Holyfield is famous for. Without a doubt, he can be put on a par with Tyson himself. The greatest boxer of our time, Evander Holyfield was often no less brutal in the ring than “Iron Mike.” All his fights attracted and still attract crowds of spectators who revere their idol. During his professional career, Holyfield won 44 out of 57 fights, 29 by knockout.

It is possible that not everyone today will remember this name. However, until 1977, this boxer literally shone in the world ring. He won more than 60 fights in a row. And the very life of this Argentine athlete was filled with drama and victories. No one could stop him in the ring. But in 1989, he killed his wife, for which he was sentenced to 11 years, but was released early and died in a car accident in 1995.

Of course, any such list can be continued for a very long time: Sugar Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran, Henry Armstrong, Sugar Ray Robinson and many others. Perhaps it would be worth mentioning Rocky Balboa (and this is not a joke). And someone will definitely include Dzyu, Povetkin and Valuev here - their favorite boxers. And everyone will certainly be right. After all, any of these athletes deserve to be recognized for their truly outstanding achievements in the world of boxing.
