Transferred to the Black Sea Fleet, appointed commander of the 3rd submarine brigade (September 1940 - February 1941), then - head of the submarine department of the Black Sea Fleet headquarters (from February 1941).

The Great Patriotic War

At the beginning of World War II, from July 1941, Captain 1st Rank G.N. Bachelors - Chief of Staff, and since September 1941 - Commander of the Novorossiysk Naval Base. He took part in supporting the Kerch-Feodosiya operation, organizing the supply of Soviet troops by sea in Sevastopol, preparing the defense of Novorossiysk from land.

During the breakthrough of the German-Romanian troops to Novorossiysk in August 1942, he was appointed commander of the Novorossiysk defensive region with the subordination of all sea and ground forces to him. For almost a month, the soldiers defended the city on the distant and near approaches. After the fall of Novorossiysk, the naval base was not disbanded, but in full force was evacuated to Gelendzhik and from there continued its combat activities. G.N. Bachelors is one of the main organizers of the landing at South Ozereyka in February 1943, at the Novorossiysk port in September 1943, at Eltigen in October 1943.

Simultaneously with his previous position in December 1943 - March 1944, he commanded the Azov military flotilla, at that time he prepared and conducted two landing operations: to Cape Tarkhan in January 1944 and to the Kerch port in February 1944. Both operations were unsuccessful and resulted in heavy casualties.

From December 1944 until the end of the war - the commander of the Danube Flotilla, which became famous under his command during the liberation of Yugoslavia, Hungary, Austria, Czechoslovakia. During the Budapest, Vienna and Bratislava-Brnovo operations, the sailors of the flotilla distinguished themselves during the landing of river assault forces, ensured the passage of troops across the Danube, supplied the Soviet armies with everything they needed along the Danube, and supported the advancing troops with fire.

Post-war service

In 1950 G.N. Bachelors graduated from the Academy of the General Staff with a gold medal, in 1950-1951 he commanded the Caspian Naval Flotilla, since November 1951 - the 7th Fleet in the Pacific Ocean.

Since May 1953, he served as Deputy Chief of the Combat Training Directorate of the Main Staff of the USSR Navy. In April-May 1964, as a senior on board the nuclear submarine "K-27", he performed one of the first long-distance ocean voyages of Soviet submariners.

SEAFARERS ARE BORN IN BELARUS

*** As a child, the future admiral I saw neither the sea nor the ships. He was born in a small district town of the Minsk province, in Baranovichi. My father worked on the railway as a locomotive driver.
*** Polesie their family left when the ramparts of the First World War rolled to these quiet places. They settled in Rechitsa, a district town above the Dnieper. There Georgy saw for the first time small, like toy, steamers.
*** Then there was service in ChON, battles near Fatezh, typhus - and again Rechitsa, and the approaching front, the defense of Mozyr, which is on the Berezina ...
*** In the spring of 1921, Bachelors returned home. He was demobilized "as he had not reached draft age." And then a message from Gomel, from the provincial committee of the youth union: the Rechitsa Komsomol organization was proposed to send three or four activists to the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Fleet.
*** Having learned about the layout of the provincial committee, 19-year-old Georgy decided at once, in an instant: here it is, a matter to which one should devote oneself without a trace! He remembered the Chernomorets armored train that came to Rechitsa in the 18th. Before his eyes, the sailors whom he had met in 19, near Kursk, strong, cheerful, fearless, in pea jackets and black peakless caps, stood before his eyes. How could you miss the opportunity to get to where people become like that?
*** He began his service as Bachelors in Petrograd, in the 2nd Baltic naval crew. Artillery school, hydrographic school, which Georgy graduated in 1925. Received an order to report to the battleship "Marat", where Bachelor was appointed commander of the watch. But he did not stay on the flagship of the Baltic Sea Forces for long: he asked to be transferred as a navigator to the submarine Kommunar.

FIRST LOVE - SUBMARINES

*** ... Even during practice, on the Black Sea he first saw submarines: old ones bought by tsarist Russia, flooded by the Wrangelites during the retreat and reborn again. I went with the submariners on a hike, having experienced both immersion and surfacing. Then I saw boats on the Neva: the leopards were standing on the frozen river near the Smolny floating base.
*** Unlike any other, cigar-shaped, without portholes, these mysterious ships, boldly operating in the blue depths, increasingly took possession of the thoughts and soul of the young sailor. And he never regretted leaving the flagship.
*** To the submarine fleet G.N. Bachelors will devote a considerable part of their lives. A decade and a half until the early forties, when from a novice Baltic submariner he became in the Pacific Ocean the commander of a submarine division, the first Soviet "pike" in the Far East, and then - the commander of the 5th Naval Brigade.
*** And for another 6 years - in the sixties, when he, already a highly experienced vice admiral, who had just left the post of commander of the 7th Pacific Fleet, will become deputy head of the permanent acceptance committee of new Soviet nuclear submarines.

*** In 1964, Vice Admiral G.N. Bachelors came out with the initiative to conduct a cruise of the nuclear ship with a check on its full autonomy. This has never been done before. The nuclear-powered ship "K-27" was ready for such a test. Georgy Nikitich, chairman of the State Acceptance Commission on this ship, himself went to sea on it, and led a unique expedition.
*** For two months, without surfacing, a new nuclear-powered ship sailed. He reached the center of the Atlantic, circled half the planet under water. The first voyage of a Soviet nuclear submarine to full autonomy was akin to a feat. The government awarded the submariners with high awards. The boat commander became a Hero of the Soviet Union.
*** Vice-Admiral Kholostyakov was awarded the Golden Star in May 1965. He was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for his outstanding contribution to the Victory, for courage and heroism shown during the Great Patriotic War.

ALMOST RETURN BASE COMMANDER

*** ... The captain of the first rank of Bachelors met the war in Sevastopol - head of the diving department of the headquarters of the Black Sea Fleet.
*** But on July 4, the forty-first, he was summoned by the commander of the fleet, Philip Sergeevich Oktyabrsky.
*** “You are appointed chief of staff of the Novorossiysk naval base,” he announced the order.
*** The bachelors were stunned. He was at a loss for words.
*** - For what, Comrade Admiral?
*** Oktyabrsky did not understand:
*** - How "for what"?
*** - For what in the rear? - Novorossiysk was then deep in the rear.
*** But orders are not discussed. And an hour later Bachelor was hurrying to the Mine pier. Red Caucasus and Chervona Ukraine left for Novorossiysk. On the cruiser "Krasny Kavkaz" the captain of the first rank went to the place of his new assignment.
*** A month later, G.N. Bachelors becomes the commander of the Novorossiysk naval base ...
*** The city was still in the rear. However, the port in the Tsemesskaya Bay, the westernmost of the large Caucasian ports, was, in one way or another, involved in everything that happened at sea. And he lived more and more intensely from day to day.

*** The enemy cut off the Crimea from the land. It was required to provide the ground defense of the base, to ensure the repair of ships breaking through from the besieged Sevastopol. It was not the first time that Novorossiysk helped its illustrious brother, the citadel of the Black Sea Fleet.
*** At the 9th kilometer of the Sukhum highway, they began to equip the command post of the NVMB. Under the cliff, which drops abruptly into the sea, in the thickness of the coastal slope, the base command post was equipped ...
*** Forty-second year. The bombing of the Nazis intensified. The front was rapidly approaching Novorossiysk. The enemy was already on the outskirts of him.
*** In the evening of August 19, 1942, the scouts discovered a motorized convoy. Enemies were moving towards the village of Neberdzhaevskaya. The battery stationed on Myskhako opened fire on the Nazis at 1745 hours. The vanguard of the 73rd German Infantry Division was destroyed. So the Novorossiysk naval base, which was in the recent rear, entered the fighting on land.

THE HEADQUARTERS TURNED ON THE AUTOMATONS

*** The battle for the city began. On September 8, the commander of the Novorossiysk defense region, Major General G.P. Kotov.
*** “The Germans have occupied the area of the station and are advancing to the eastern part of the city,” the commander told Kholostyakov. And he ordered:
*** - Throw them back, plug this gap with what you want!
*** Bachelors reported that he had not a single company at his disposal, except for those scattered along the coast in anti-amphibious defense, and at the 9th kilometer there was only the headquarters of the base.
*** - Take anyone and go yourself, but plug this hole! the commander ordered sharply.
*** Putting down the phone, Bachelor ordered:
*** - To the headquarters and the political department - a military alarm!
*** The lorry and the "emka" immediately set off for Novorossiysk. The captain of the first rank and his comrades faced a difficult task. But they were joined by sailors and army men who fought back from their units. Firing incessantly, the warriors advanced towards the Standard.
Feeling a blunt blow at the belt, Bachelor fell to the ground. The contusion was light. Saved a spare disk to the PPSh. He lay, apparently, no more than a minute ... I got up. And again - into battle!

THE DECISION, THE MOST IMPORTANT

*** ... Bachelors were taken out of the besieged city a group of their staff officers. Night has come. Walking along the Sukhum highway in the pitch darkness, the captain of the first rank was feverishly thinking: where in the eastern part of the city can you put up a barrier to the enemy? Methodievka was already occupied, the railway station was captured, and the tanks of the Nazis were approaching the center of Novorossiysk.
*** Where can you block the path of the fascists? Now, immediately, at night. Perhaps reinforcements will arrive in the morning. But the enemy can dash on without waiting for the morning ...
*** Where is the barrier to be put up?
*** The best, perhaps, for this is the Adamovich beam, which separates "Proletarian" and "October". A narrow strip of highway, the seashore is close to the slope of the ridge ...
*** Footsteps were heard in the darkness, someone was approaching towards Bachelor's group. It turned out to be sailors. 305th Separate Marine Battalion. Major Kunikov was given the task of moving to Methodievka.
*** - Where is the commander? - asked Bachelors.
*** However, an emergency happened. The major had just been taken to Gelendzhik, to the hospital. Being on the step of the car, Caesar Lvovich gave commands to the soldiers moving in the semi-darkness in an undertone. And ... his hand was touched by a car driving in the direction of Gelendzhik ...
*** This is how it happens ... Fate kept the future hero ...
*** - Who joined the battalion command?
*** - Chief of staff of the battalion, Captain Bogoslovsky! - A tall, thin military man stepped forward.
*** The bachelors demanded a service book from Bogoslovsky. And he wrote in it a combat order: to take up defensive positions in the area of the Oktyabr cement plant with the leading edge along the Adamovich girder and to hold this line at all costs.
*** The Red Navy's flashlight showed the last too. Date of writing the combat order: 9.IХ.42.01.00.

*** More years of a terrible war will pass, and Georgy Nikitich will walk with honor along its roads, ending the battles on the Danube, in ancient Vienna. But this is what will be considered the most important decision in the years of hard times: an order given at night on a mountain road near Novorossiysk. Then this order will be confirmed by the command. Member of the Military Council of the front L.M. Kaganovich will report him (from the command post at the 9th kilometer) to the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, and he will thank the sailors who closed the way to the Caucasus.
*** The road to the Black Sea coast will be tightly blocked, and the enemy will not break further south, to the flourishing cities of the Black Sea region, and further to the Caucasus, Iran, and India.
*** The order given by the Bachelors on the Sukhum highway will frustrate Hitler's strategic plans. But this will become known much later ...

"LOVE WITH YOURSELF"

*** ... I am sitting in a cozy and spacious apartment of the Vice Admiral on Tverskoy Boulevard. Everything here looked like a museum. January 1983 ...
*** Photos on the walls, gifts. Especially the study. A bookcase with books about the war, about the sea. And caring owners. Short, smart, gray-eyed - Georgy Nikitich. Brown-eyed, full - Natalya Vasilievna.
*** - Come on, Kostya, I will sign you a book about Novorossiysk. Nobody will have such an autograph, - she laughs. - Sidorova. Kunikova. Bachelor!
*** She smiles, and there is a hidden sadness in her eyes. In this apartment there is an eternal memory of the first owner, Caesar Lvovich Kunikov, the first husband of the hostess. He seemed to have never left here. As if alive ... And here they spoke of him as alive ...
*** - I came to Novorossiysk, to Caesar. After the war. First. And she took Yurochka with her. So, just imagine what George did: he immediately ordered the tailor to sew the boy's sailor suit. Not a fake one, with bubons, but a real one - with jackets, with flared trousers ...
*** - I had a strategic task: to make Natasha's son fall in love with me. Well, only then ... - Vice Admiral smiles slyly ...
*** - Then what? - the hostess threatens with a finger.
*** Everything in this house is simple - no show or swagger. Such is their life. Life and love.
*** I look at this glorious couple, and I think I will not give them eighty. Natalya Vasilievna only recently left an important post in the USSR State Planning Committee, Georgy Nikitich - due to eye disease - stopped broadcasting the "Searchers" television program on Central Television.
*** But they have enough worries.
*** - I want, Kostya, to make a memorial dinner - in memory of Caesar, - says Natalya Vasilievna. - I will gather his friends ... I am engaged ...
*** - Your operation "Letters to Descendants" went beautifully, - says the vice-admiral. - I am proud that I am your admiral-mentor on the "Schooner" ... Come on, come on, let's go into the office. I will show you something…. I don't want to upset Natasha ...

TELEGRAM TO THE FUTURE

*** - Here, too, like a letter, or rather - a telegram to the future ... - Georgiy Nikitich mused quietly, seating me into one of the chairs at his desk. - Sat down. Here.
*** He carefully examines his complete "kingdom" - here are his most beloved books and gifts. But I also see my photo, taken from the TV screen in 1974. Leonid Ilyich addresses the Novorossiysk. And behind him - almost a third of the picture is the face of the vice admiral. The vice admiral was seated farther from the General Secretary, row to the fourth, but they didn’t let me into the stadium at all, there’s no ticket for you, Konstantin, you’re not a local, they said. You can't. And then miracles! - Leonid Ilyich spoke for an hour against the background of the sailor. Well, I filmed both comrades from the screen. Bachelor really liked this picture ...
*** - We are talking about the future ... - said the vice admiral quietly. - Here's what ... You know that I lit the Eternal Flame - in 58th - in Novorossiysk ...
*** I nodded.
*** - Of course…
*** - I returned from Heroes' Square and wrote a telegram. Here read ... - He pulled out a form of a telegram from the bottom drawer. - Do not be surprised ... Everything has its time ...
*** I remember this text now. That's right.
*** “To the Chief Commander of the USSR Navy. VICE-ADMIRAL KHOLOSTYAKOV DIED IN MOSCOW. I PLEASE BURY IN NOVOROSSIYSK IN THE SQUARE OF HEROES NEAR FIRING FRIENDS. "
*** And the painting below, sweeping, energetic - G. KHOLOSTYAKOV.

THE LAST FEAT OF ADMIRAL KHOLOSTYAKOV

*** ... I remembered this telegram six months later.
*** The criminal who has come into the confidence of the admiral, having taken possession of his military awards, having killed his wife Natalya Vasilievna, will also inflict a mortal blow on Georgy Nikitich.
*** And he, experiencing terrible pain, will hold back a groan, drown out a cry in his throat: next to, in the next room, Natasha's granddaughter was sleeping, and the villain's hand could also touch her ...
*** Maybe this is the last feat of Admiral Kholostyakov?

You can read more about this tragic story.

*** He wanted to lie down when he had to, next to his comrades in arms, by the warm breath of the holy, immortal, Eternal Fire.

The whole country was shocked by a particularly grave crime that took place in Moscow in July 1983. In an apartment on Tverskoy Boulevard, the famous retired vice-admiral Georgy Nikitich Kholostyakov and his wife Natalya Vasilievna Sidorova, the widow of the legendary commander of the 3rd combat area of the anti-airborne defense of the Novorossiysk naval base, Caesar Lvovich Kunikov, posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union in 1943, were killed Union.

By the way, a street in Rostov-on-Don, an avenue in Novorossiysk and one of the squares in Moscow were named after the brave Major Caesar Kunikov; a bust of the Hero was installed at school number 3 in Azov. And the holder of the Soviet medal "Gold Star" Georgy Bachelor was also awarded another special honor - he was awarded the title of an honorary citizen of several cities: Russian Gelendzhik, Baranovichi (Belarus) and Bratislava (Slovakia).

Double murder in the center of Moscow

On the morning of July 18, the bodies of both victims were discovered by the adult granddaughter of the deceased, Natalya Kunikova, who was sleeping in another room at the time of the crime and was awakened by the knock of the front door of the apartment, which was strongly slammed by unknown criminals. They kidnapped, among other things, the uniform with the awards of the Hero of the Soviet Union Georgy Kholostyakov.

The criminal case of double murder was taken under the control of the country's leadership, therefore, the responsible members of the investigative-operational group were invited to the meeting of the board of the USSR Prosecutor's Office. Prosecutor General Alexander Mikhailovich Rekunkov corrosively inquired whether the deputy head of the Moscow Criminal Investigation Department, Anatoly Nikolayevich Yegorov, considered himself a professional. The Murovets-leader answered with restraint that he prefers not to evaluate himself, and life will show the degree of his professionalism. It is impossible not to mention that Anatoly Nikolaevich subsequently, in addition to being elected a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR, will head the legendary Moscow Criminal Investigation Department and become the first deputy head of the Main Internal Affairs Directorate of the city of Moscow. A recognized specialist in operational work, he will be awarded the Order of the Red Star, the Order for Personal Courage and medals, including the medal for excellent service in maintaining public order, and will be awarded the title of Honored Worker of the USSR Ministry of Internal Affairs. Retired Police Major General Anatoly Yegorov, who died after a serious and prolonged illness on December 17, 2009 at the age of 63, was buried in the capital's Nikolo-Arkhangelsk cemetery.

... The most experienced detectives of the Moscow Criminal Investigation Department were involved in solving the crime, employees of other services of the Moscow police took part in working out a number of versions. In addition, various investigative orders were carried out by police officers from the peripheral regions of the country.

It is clear that one of the main versions suggested that persons who purposefully hunted for valuable award regalia could be involved in the murder of Vice Admiral Kholostyakov and his wife. Moreover, according to this version, there was a very significant "clue". Several war veterans were stolen by two swindlers, a boy and a girl, who had their military awards.

For their scam, the criminals have invented a kind of shameless criminal "legend". Introducing themselves as students of the Faculty of Journalism of Moscow State University, the young accomplices assured the gullible old people that they wanted to better fulfill their creative task - to write about the front-line soldiers who had gone through the roads of the war. The veterans willingly agreed to talk at home with the "novice journalists" and, drinking tea with them, recalled the battles with the Nazis and showed their military insignia to the "trainee" guests. Satisfied with the hospitality of the owners, the “interviewer” visitors took their leave, and a little later it turned out that the old people had been robbed in the most shameless way, since they had lost their dear symbols of military valor. For the thieves, the stolen goods were nothing more than a commodity containing precious metals for the underground awards market. The victims especially remembered the guy's companion, and the police officers had a pair of composite images of a girl in huge glasses. One of the Murov brigades, headed by the senior inspector of the 6th department, Alexei Sidorov, began to thoroughly check the journalism department of the Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov, but the desired "thread" to solve the crimes was not found.

The information flowing from everywhere was thoroughly analyzed and, if necessary, scrupulously rechecked, however, as it turned out, they had nothing to do with the double murder on Tverskoy Boulevard. And yet, in the end, we managed to get out curious address operational information about a certain Gene: at the station in Moscow, he found out about an elderly teacher from their regional center, who had two Orders of Lenin, from an Ivanovo countryman criminal who specialized in stealing icons. The investigation also learned from the informant that the suspicious Gena had allegedly been a student before, but for some reason was expelled from the third year of Ivanovo State University.

Business trip to Ivanovo

Aleksey Sidorov and Vladimir Pogrebnyak, who were considered highly qualified experts in the fight against fraud in the Moscow Criminal Investigation Department, were sent on a business trip to the city of Ivanovo by the senior task force Anatoly Yegorov. There, the first undertook to look for the "university trail" of the still very mysterious person involved in Gena, and the second paid a business visit to the department of public education in order to inquire about a teacher in this institution, whose pedagogical work was rated on the highest scale by the state. Both detectives did an excellent job with their task: in the archives of the higher educational institution there was a folder with documents for the "suitable" ex-student Gennady, and the officials working in the field of education suggested where the old teacher lived.

Ivanovo city
Militia operatives went to the obtained address and, having arrived there, learned from a very respectable grandfather that his wife had died a year ago. The conversation with the old man did not clarify anything about the theft from his wife, but their son turned out to be more memorable than his father. The heir explained that he was present at the conversation of the mother with a guy and a girl who had come to visit her, who introduced themselves as students of the Faculty of Journalism. After the death of the teacher, it was discovered that none of her relatives had seen both orders since the day of the invasion of that "student couple". At first, the father and son wanted to report the missing awards to the police, but then they abandoned this intention, since they were not sure that the "journalism students" had actually committed the theft. Fully admitting that they could receive orders ... simply as a gift from his mother, the witness son ingenuously concluded that because of this doubt about the secrecy of the disappearance of the awards, he and his father did not want to cast suspicion on the two young "journalists" ... The conscientious eyewitness was shown a photograph of Gennady, and he was immediately identified by the witness.

Further actions of the police detectives suggested themselves, since by this time it was already known that the person under development, Gennady Kalinin, had a wife, Inna, who studied at a technical school. She, as soon as she put on "representative glasses" on her nose, was exactly like the identikits of the criminal girl that the operatives had. True, now it was necessary to act for sure so as not to prematurely frighten Gennady. Although he was registered in the parental dwelling, he did not live within its walls, but in some kind of refuge. That is why they decided not to detain Inna, when they found out her whereabouts, but to leave it under the supervision of police professionals of outdoor surveillance. And the calculation of the detectives was justified: he did appear in the city of Gennady, however, he behaved with extreme caution. Surprisingly, he shook the "outdoor" around the city of Ivanovo so much that he even managed to slip away from it. Two days went in search of the lost person involved, and, finally, the police "escort" stuck to him again.

On a weekday morning, on Thursday, the suspect went to the bathhouse to wash, and when he got out clean, he was detained and taken to the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Ivanovo Regional Executive Committee in a company car. Of course, they searched Kalinin, but nothing that would incriminate him was found. However, detective Alexei Sidorov, who decided to more carefully probe the detainee's leather jacket lying on the table in front of him, was rewarded for his perseverance. Behind the lining of the leather jacket was the Order of the Red Star, and, entering another office, Sidorov called Yegorov and told him the number of the award found on the suspect. The deputy head of the Moscow Criminal Investigation Department ordered that simultaneous searches be urgently carried out at those addresses where the members of the investigative-operational group could find material evidence of the criminal activities of the young couple Kalinins.

Murovets Alexey Sidorov visited the apartment of Gennady's parents, but only two unregistered guns were kept there. Returning to the regional Department of Internal Affairs, Sidorov once again contacted the head of the task force, Yegorov, who informed his subordinate that the Order of the Red Star, seized during a personal search of the suspect, was "passing" on the theft committed in the capital. This means that the person involved in the criminal case was calculated exactly, which was confirmed by the find made during the search in the house where Inna lived with the participation of Moscow operative Vladimir Pogrebnyak. Soviet and foreign orders were seized there. After checking the number of the first, the police operatives learned that this order had been awarded to the Bachelors. In addition, there were notebooks in the sideboard, in which there were records of imaginary interviews with representatives of the veteran guard. And in an unprepossessing building located near the house, Pogrebnyak found a yellow briefcase, inside which there were an icon, notebooks and ... a handwritten biographical collection about the heroes of the fiery years. Returning to the house and looking through this dossier, the police officers noticed a crossed-out portrait of Vice Admiral Kholostyakov on one of the pages. Later it became clear that, in particular, the criminals spouses were looking for their victims using this collection.

Search for the fugitive and re-search

Carried away by the primary study of the "trophies" of the effective search, the participants in the investigation watched as Inna sneaked out of the house. In the morning, Anatoly Egorov arrived from Moscow with a brigade, who, having learned about the operatives' mistake the day before, did not scold his charges, but only demanded to find the fugitive as soon as possible.

The entire brigade departed back to the capital together with the detained Gennady Kalinin, and the search for Inna was entrusted to the detectives Vladimir Pogrebnyak and Vyacheslav Zvigul who remained in Ivanovo. On the trail of the suspect Kalinina, the operatives were helped by a guy, whose girlfriend was well acquainted with Inna, who was brought to criminal responsibility, let's say, for secondary complicity in a robbery with murder. This guy under investigation was promised that he would definitely be credited with helping the police in the search for the escaped one, and he found out where Kalinina was hiding.

Towards midnight, the detectives visited the address named by the guy, where Inna really lurked in someone else's two-room apartment. Before the detainee was also sent to Moscow, a second search was carried out, during which some other surviving awards were found, awarded by the Kalinin criminal couple. As journalist Alexei Valentey heard from Vladimir Pogrebnyak, Gennady and Inna melted the stolen awards into rings, one of which was with the murderer's spouse: massive, gold. It remains to clarify that family members with a criminal bias turned into prisoners in October eighty-three, that is, just a few months after the robbery in the center of the capital.

The evidence collected by the investigation was so indisputable that the accused Kalinins confessed to the crimes they had committed. According to the testimony of the spouses-accomplices, on July 13, 1983, they arrived in the capital and through "Mosgorspravka" found out the address of Georgy Nikitich Kholostyakov. Immediately heading towards him, the attackers came to visit the vice admiral. His wife Natalya Vasilievna was also in the apartment, who tactfully went about her business while her husband talked with young people who had recommended themselves as students of the Faculty of Journalism of Moscow State University.

Military merit of the naval commander

The fate of the retired Vice Admiral Kholostyakov turned out to be extremely interesting, so there was something to remember about the sociable owner of a prestigious apartment on Tverskoy Boulevard.

Georgy Nikitich was born on July 20, 1902 in the district town of Baranovichi, Minsk province (now this city is the center of the Baranovichi district of the Brest region of the Republic of Belarus). Bachelors, who was a participant in the Civil War, since 1921, linked his life with the Navy.

Becoming a graduate of the Naval Hydrographic School in 1925, Bachelors a few years later, in 1928, graduated from the underwater class of special courses for command personnel. Despite his youth, already in the thirty-first, a native of Baranovichi was appointed commander of a submarine, and then alternately headed a division and a brigade of domestic submarines. With a reputation as one of the foremost Soviet submarine commanders, in 1935 he received the highest Soviet award - the Order of Lenin.

During the Great Patriotic War, Georgy Nikitich first became chief of staff of the Novorossiysk naval base, and then its commander. As one of the organizers of the heroic defense of Novorossiysk, Bachelor was directly involved in the development of several large amphibious operations. And later, Rear Admiral Georgy Kholostyakov, being from December 1943 to March 1944, the acting commander of the Azov military flotilla, in this post conducted two more successful amphibious operations - at Cape Tarkhan and in the Kerch port. Later, from December 1944 until the end of the war, Bachelor led the Danube military flotilla and participated in the liberation of Yugoslavia, Hungary, Austria and Slovakia. In particular, the sailors of the flotilla headed by him distinguished themselves in the Budapest and Vienna offensive operations.

On May 24, 1945, the brave participant of the Great Patriotic War, Georgy Bachelor, became vice admiral - this is the military rank of the highest command staff of the fleet (corresponding to the army rank of lieutenant general).

On May 7, 1965, Vice Admiral Georgy Nikitich Kholostyakov was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for the courage and heroism shown in the struggle against the Nazi invaders, and in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the victory of the Soviet people over Nazi Germany in the Great Patriotic War.

A brave front-line soldier, he graduated from the military academy in 1950. Vice-Admiral Kholostyakov commanded the Caspian Military Flotilla and the 7th Navy (its main base was located in the Far Eastern Sovetskaya Gavan), was the deputy chief of the Combat Training Directorate of the Main Staff of the Navy (Naval Forces), for several years served as a consultant on The Navy under the USSR Ministry of Defense and retired only in 1969.

In addition to the Golden Star of the Hero, Vice Admiral Bachelor was awarded three Orders of Lenin and the same Orders of the Red Banner, the Order of Suvorov, I degree, two Orders of Ushakov, I degree, the Order of the Patriotic War, I degree, the Order of the Red Star, medals and a number of foreign orders.

Unexpected return visit of "Zhurfak students"

... After talking with the "interviewers" for about an hour, Hero of the Soviet Union Georgy Bachelor presented them with a gift. Having left an autograph in his book of memoirs "Eternal Flame", published in 1976 in Moscow by "Voyenizdat", he handed it over to the "Zhurfakovtsy".

Determined to confer the military awards of the vice admiral at all costs, the provincial malefactors again came to the Bachelors the next day. The unexpected visitors explained the purpose of their return visit by saying that they wanted to clarify something from yesterday's interview. During the investigation, Kalinin argued that he and Inna did not plan to deal with Bachelor and his wife. However, in case of any unforeseen complications, they say, he considered it necessary to insure himself, which is why he took with him ... a tire iron, which he threw on the bottom of a sports bag. True, this time the "interviewers" left with nothing from Bachelor and Sidorova, since the writer Nikolai Lanin came to them, upon whose appearance the spouses of Ivanovo considered it best for themselves to quickly retreat home. But on the morning of Monday, July 18, the annoying "Zhurfakovites" made another attempt to get the Vice-Admiral's awards at their disposal. And although the retired owners were quite surprised by the new arrival of the annoying couple, they nevertheless showed hospitality by allowing the "journalism trainees" to enter the apartment.

Probably, Natalya Vasilyevna nevertheless suspected that it was not with a good purpose that these affectionate "Zhurfak students" were here. But they were also wary, although they did not show any kind.

Referring to her thirst, Inna asked the hostess to bring water, and when Natalya Vasilievna turned and left, Gennady darted after her. Thinking that she was heading from the kitchen to the front door in order to jump out of the apartment, Kalinin hastily grabbed a tire iron from his bag. Having struck the first victim with it on the head, the criminal unleashed several blows with a tire iron on Georgy Nikitich. Some seconds earlier, having heard an incomprehensible noise, he hurried anxiously from the room into the corridor, where the young brutal robber used his murder weapon against the famous Hero.

From the wardrobe, Inna took Bachelor's tunic with his numerous awards, stuffing the coveted booty into her bag; and from the office of Georgy Nikitich, one of the most prominent personalities in the history of our Navy, the criminal couple took the admiral's pennant and order books. With the kidnapped, the spouses-criminals fled the scene of the crime, not realizing that Sidorova's granddaughter, Natalya Kunikova, was sleeping in one of the rooms, who became the first eyewitness to an extraordinary criminal incident in an apartment on Tverskoy Boulevard.

Prior to this double murder, Kalinin and in the Ivanovo region could not resist murder: with an accomplice he shed the blood of an old priest in order to take away the icons from her apartment monastery.

End of investigation, court. And - memory!

The preliminary investigation charged the Kalinins with the fact that, having been engaged in criminal activities since 1980, over several years they committed dozens of thefts of awards in a number of cities of the Soviet Union, including, along with Moscow, Chisinau, Tiraspol, Bendery, Odessa, Belgorod, Bryansk, Vladimir , Pavlovsky Posad, Ryazan, Elektrostal, Tula, Smolensk and others. The criminal couple stole from the victims several medals "Gold Star" and "Hammer and Sickle" (awarded to Heroes of Socialist Labor), over fifty Orders of Lenin and other Soviet and foreign state insignia.

The court sentenced Gennady Kalinin to an exceptional measure of punishment, and his wife, an accomplice, Inna, was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

By the way, other criminals who were exposed in the course of detective work to solve the murder of Vice-Admiral Georgy Kholostyakov and his wife Natalya Sidorova also got into the dock. Being part of the organized gang of a certain Tarasenko, these accomplices-criminals, in parallel with the Kalinin spouses, staged a purposeful hunt for the valuable numbered regalia of the awarded, and those guilty of such an openly criminal business subsequently also faced legal retribution for their deed.

And, in conclusion, I would like to say about how the memory of the Hero of the Soviet Union, Vice Admiral Georgy Kholostyakov, an outstanding Russian naval commander, was immortalized. His name was given to the streets in the cities of Novorossiysk, Izmail, Gelendzhik and a dry cargo ship that entered service in 1984, a house-museum of Vice Admiral Georgy Kholostyakov was opened in Baranovichi, and a postal envelope dedicated to him was issued in the Republic of Belarus in 2002 - to the 100th anniversary from the birthday of the Hero.

At the Kuntsevo cemetery in Moscow, where Georgy Nikitich Kholostyakov and Natalya Vasilyevna Sidorova, who became victims of a daring crime, were buried, a plate with their photographs and a bronze torch in the middle became the central part of the memorial composition. And next to this modest tombstone, an anchor was set ... As one of the visible symbols of the eternal memory of the military-hardened vice admiral, who survived the terrible war time, but died tragically already in peacetime, decades after the victorious May 1945.

Transferred to the Black Sea Fleet, appointed commander of the 3rd submarine brigade (September 1940-February 1941), then head of the submarine department of the Black Sea Fleet headquarters (from February 1941).

The Great Patriotic War

Two weeks after the start of the Great Patriotic War, Captain 1st Rank G.N. Kholostyakov was appointed chief of staff of the Novovorossiysk naval base, in September 1941 - its commander. Ships and units of the Novorossiysk naval base fought in the Black Sea, carried out and supported sea transportation, participated in the Kerch-Feodosiya landing operation (December 1941 - January 1942).

On August 17, 1942, the Novorossiysk defensive region was created, and at the end of August the enemy reached the close approaches to Novorossiysk. All units located in the city were subordinated to the 1st rank captain Bachelor. One of the organizers of the heroic defense of Novorossiysk. After the fall of Novorossiysk, the base was transferred to Gelendzhik. Bachelor's services were highly appreciated - on December 13, 1942, he was awarded the title of Rear Admiral. In February 1943, Bachelor took part in organizing the landing in the South Ozereyka area and near Stanichka, and then was responsible for supplying the captured bridgehead on "Malaya Zemlya" from the sea. In 1943, with the direct participation of Kholostyakov, two more landings were organized: the Novorossiysk landing operation on September 10-11 and the landing at Eltigen.

In the early 80s, a wave of cynical robberies swept through the cities of the USSR. Criminals, posing as journalists, entered the homes of veterans and stole their awards. And one day they committed a murder. Vice-Admiral Bachelor died at the hands of Gennady Kalinin. And the investigation received the status of "particularly important".

"Journalists" on the hunt

Criminal activity during the Soviet Union was varied. Either the Chekists had to unravel the snake ball in the "Fish Business", then turn the "Explosives" operation. But the case of the Kalinin couple came as a surprise to the guards. They have never met anything like it.

The Kalinin couple did not have enough money. But they did not want to earn them by honest labor. Painfully troublesome this occupation. Therefore, Gennady and Inna decided to stand up under the banner of crime. But they were also not eager to get involved in serious, dangerous business. Therefore, the sweet couple crept into the ranks of the bandits, who plundered the front-line soldiers. The Kalinins considered that stealing awards from veterans was a match for them.

First, the Kalinins walked through the front-line soldiers of Ivanovo and the region. And then they began to explore new territory. Since the risk was still great, Inna and Gennady, having committed several thefts, changed their place of deployment. For three years of their criminal activity, they robbed about four dozen veterans in nineteen cities. The Kalinins operated in Ryazan, Kishinev, Vladimir, Orel, Tula, Tiraspol, Smolensk and other settlements of the USSR. During this time, the couple managed to get hold of the Orders of Lenin, gold stars of Heroes of the USSR, medals of Heroes of Socialist Labor and other valuable awards. They, as a rule, sold the booty for a short time. There were no problems with this, there were plenty of people who wanted to get the order.

Spouses Kalinin

A couple acted according to a previously worked out scheme. Once in the new city, the Kalinins first of all went to the local honor board. The names and surnames of the front-line soldiers were always present there. And then the criminals received their addresses with the help of the city certificate. If plan "A" for some reason did not work, the Kalinins used plan "B". Gennady, posing as a journalist, applied to the councils of veterans, where he obtained the necessary information. After that, together with his wife, he went to the addresses. The newspaper interview legend worked fine. Once in the house, the “journalists” talked with the victim for some time, and then asked to bring them water. As soon as the front-line soldier left for another room, the Kalinins robbed him and fled.

The couple were doing well. For three years of criminal activity, they were able to enrich themselves with a very decent amount of forty thousand rubles at that time. But this seemed to them insufficient. Therefore, in 1983, the couple ventured into the robbery of the Hero of the Soviet Union, Vice Admiral Georgy Nikitich Kholostyakov, who lived in the capital of the Soviet Union.

Kill the vice admiral

Before traveling to the capital, Gennady decided to raid the house of the priest's widow. The old woman lived in the village of Yelnat, located in the native Ivanovo region for criminals. True, in this matter, Inna could not keep him company. She had a good reason - the woman was taking a session at the institute. Therefore, Gennady had to take a certain accomplice with him.

Georgy Bachelor with his wife

The approved scheme did not work this time. The old woman either saw or suspected something was wrong and tried to call for help. And Kalinin killed her. For such an emergency, he had a tire iron with him. But the murder was not justified. The criminals did not find either ancient icons or jewelry.

In the capital, the couple appeared on the thirteenth of July 1983. They found out the address of Kholostyakov in Mosgorspravka and decided to get down to business. They were lucky, that day Georgy Nikitich was at home. He, like all the other front-line soldiers, believed in the legend of the "interview". The couple did not arouse suspicion in the Soviet military leader. Their conversation lasted about sixty minutes, after which the veteran presented the Kalinin with his book with a signature. And they left, deciding to pull off the robbery the next day.

Georgy Nikitich Bachelor

And so, on the fourteenth, they reappeared on the doorstep of the vice admiral's apartment. Citing inexperience in journalism, the Kalinins asked the front-line soldier to clarify some details. It did not work to commit a crime that day. The plans were thwarted by the unexpected visit of the writer Nikolai Lanin. Seeing a new person, the Kalinins hurried to retreat.

But they were not going to retreat. On the twenty-first day of the same month, they again came to Bachelor. The front-line soldier, of course, was very surprised, but let the annoying "journalists" into the house. There they were met by the equally surprised wife of the vice admiral. Suspecting something was wrong, she wanted to leave the apartment, but Gennady killed her with a tire iron. Then he dealt with Georgy Nikitich. The criminals did not thoroughly search the apartment. They grabbed the jacket with the orders of the vice admiral and several valuable things, after which they left the apartment. Their haste saved the life of the front-line soldier's granddaughter, who at that moment was asleep in one of the rooms (the criminals came to Bachelor early in the morning). It was she who discovered the bodies of the victims.

Soon, the general secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU, Yuri Vladimirovich Andropov, was reported about the death of Kholostyakov and his wife. He ordered to find the killers as soon as possible. Curiously, at first, the investigators believed that the theft of the jacket and medals was done for the sake of a distraction. The guards thought that Georgy Nikitich had died at the hands of some enemy.

Grave of Bachelor and his wife

But gradually the picture began to clear up. Since the best investigators got down to business, Tarasenko, the man who led the gang of medal hunters, was soon arrested. He, of course, did not cover the Kalinins, who stained their hands with blood. They managed to arrest Gennady and Inna in October, and the investigation itself lasted about a year. The spouses did not ask for any leniency, they fully admitted their guilt and waited for a verdict. And in 1984, Gennady was sentenced to death, and Inna was sentenced to fifteen years in prison.
