Look down to the right which means. Human behavior during dialogue

The most accurate visual way of detecting lies is based on the movement of our gaze. They say that “ eyes are the mirror of the soul", Or" only your eyes can tell the truth "," your eyes don't lie. "

He considers eye movement patterns within the framework of his theory of Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP).

Observing a person, it is easy to notice that his gaze is directed in one direction or another throughout the conversation. Scientists associate gaze movement with the process of human perception and identify three main channels through which people receive and process information:

Visual channel. It is associated with visual images, everything that we see with our eyes;

Audio channel. Associated with hearing, the sounds we perceive;

Kinesthetic channel. All information related to sensations, feelings, smells, tastes, experiences passes through it.

Each person has one of these channels, as a rule, is the leading one. Some of us live more with images, some with feelings, and some with stories and news and love with our ears! At the same time, each of us uses all systems as needed.

NLP theory and practice says:

  • The eyes facing upward give us figurative representations.
  • Eyes walking along the horizontal axis help us perceive and reproduce speech and sounds.
  • If the gaze is directed downward, this is associated with sensations or an internal monologue.
  • At the same time: for right-handers, the left side is an area associated with the past, the right - with the future. For lefties, the opposite is true.

Take a look at the diagram. It shows the movement of the gaze and the corresponding channel of perception.

  • The gaze is turned up. It is difficult for a person in this position to think about anything (try it yourself). Probably, he just leaves the conversation and does not want to delve into the topic. Withdrawn
  • VC. Looking up and to the right (from the side of the interlocutor). Visual design. In this case, a person turns to the future or comes up with images.
  • BB. Looking up and to the left - a person turns to the past, remembers some of his pictures (visual images). Visual recall.
  • AK. Looking horizontally to the right - constructing speech, inventing.
  • AB. Looking horizontally to the left - a person is in the past, he remembers speeches, words.
  • Look down. Most likely, the interlocutor does not hear you. He completely went into his experiences.
  • TO. Looking down and right - experiencing, imagining oneself in the place of another;
  • VD. Looking down to the left is an internal monologue or dialogue, as well as the recollection of one's own experiences.

Let's try. Find yourself a conversation partner who is willing to participate in your experiment.

First, determine whether he is right-handed or left-handed. It doesn't just depend on the dominant hand. A person can also be a hidden left-hander. To determine this, there are special neuro-psychological tests. But at the beginning of the conversation, you can simply ask the security question formulated for the answer "Yes" - the answer to which you know for sure. Track the oculomotor response. It is the very first, perhaps even fleeting, movement of the eye that is important. If it is directed to the memory left-up, side or down, then your interlocutor is right-handed. And vice versa.

Or: "Ask him to imagine green pancakes drizzled with red sour cream." It is unlikely that he had ever seen such a product. And watch the movements of his eyes, where his eyes are directed more often when the image is being constructed. Note that the gaze may for some moments be directed towards the memory of images (for right-handers it is to the left upwards), since a person, inventing a new one, always takes old memories, models them, changing them.

Enter into any dialogue and look into the eyes of the interlocutor and you will easily understand what he is doing now:

Remembers or imagines images of familiar people and events;

Remembers stories told and someone's speeches, or prepares to answer you, composing another phrase to himself;

Or perhaps your interlocutor has gone into his feelings, recalling the feelings he once experienced, or he is very worried about your current conversation.

Did you manage to catch the trajectory of your gaze? Then boldly look into the eyes of your interlocutors and study further!

For right-handers: looking to the right and up, to the right and to the side means composing.

The opposite is true for left-handers.

Important! When you look at the interlocutor, if he has a "right" - then you have a "left"!

In addition, it is worth remembering that lying is accompanied by negative experiences of shame and guilt. That is why, the person who is cheating, more often than not, will avoid direct eye contact. At the same time, he can choose the opposite tactics, look directly, without looking away. About such a case they say: "He lies and does not blush!"

Then keen eyesight is needed to help you notice the constriction and dilation of the pupil. At the same time, if a person's pupil narrows, it means that he directs his consciousness inward - at memory, if it expands - then at the future, at a structure, at fantasizing.

Remember that to state the fact of a lie (when you are not yet experienced enough), always pay attention to: posture, facial expressions, gestures, voice, etc.

Observe, try, study and you will succeed!

Usually our eyes "follow" our thoughts, and sometimes, just by looking into our eyes, other people can understand what we are thinking. Are you sure you agree that reading another person's thoughts by their eyes is a very useful skill? Thanks to this, everyone will be able to understand whether they are being deceived or determine whether your interlocutor is interested in what you are telling him about. This useful skill is perfectly mastered by poker players.

Eyes to eyes

Such contact with the interlocutor indicates that he is very interested in talking with you. Prolonged eye contact can indicate that the person is scared and / or distrustful of you. Brief Eye Contact - The person is worried and / or not interested in talking to you. And the complete absence of eye contact indicates the complete indifference of your interlocutor to your conversation.

Man looking up

Raised eyes are a sign of contempt, sarcasm, or annoyance directed at you. In most cases, such a "gesture" signifies condescension.

If the person looks to the upper right corner

He visually imagines a picture stored in his memory. Ask someone to describe the appearance of a person, and your interlocutor will certainly look up and look to the right.

If the person looks away to the upper left corner

This indicates that he is clearly trying to imagine something. When we try to use our imagination to visually "draw" a picture, we lift our eyes up and look to the left.

If your interlocutor looks to the right

This means that he is trying to remember something. Try asking someone to remember the melody of the song, and the person will definitely glance to the right.

Looking to the left people come up with sounds

When a person imagines a sound or composes a new melody, he looks to the left. Ask someone to imagine the sound of a car whistle underwater, and they will certainly look to the left.

If your interlocutor lowers his eyes and looks to the right

This person has a so-called "internal" dialogue with himself. The other person may be pondering something you said, or they may be pondering what to say to you next.

If a person looks down and looks to the left

He thinks about his impression of something. Ask your interlocutor how they are feeling on their birthday, and before answering you, the person will lower their eyes and look to the left.

Downcast eyes

We show that we feel uncomfortable or even embarrassed. Often, if a person is shy or does not want to talk, he lowers his eyes. In Asian culture, it is the norm not to look a person in the eye, to look down when talking to the interlocutor.

These "rules" are usually followed by all of us. But the left-hander does the opposite: the right-hander looks to the right, the left-hander to the left, and vice versa.

How can you tell if someone is lying to you?

There is no absolutely correct algorithm by which you can determine whether your interlocutor is lying or not. The best option is to ask a basic question such as "what color is your car?" If a person lifts his eyes and looks to the right (or to the left, if he is left-handed), then it is quite possible to believe him. Thus, in the future you can understand whether you are being deceived or not.

For example, when telling you about what happened in class, your friend looks to the right; talking about his holidays, he constantly looks up and glances to the right. Most likely, everything he said is true. But when he shares with you his impressions of the beautiful girl he met the other day, and his eyes are fixed on the upper left corner, you can conclude that he is clearly “embellishing”.

Research shows that information going into the human brain is distributed as follows: 87 percent goes through the eyes, 9 through the ears, and 4 percent through the rest of the senses.

It turns out that the same thoughts in a person cause the same expression in the eyes. And if you learn the simple science of reading views, you can even read minds! So, hardly anyone would disagree with the fact that this skill will certainly come in handy, and regardless of the situation: non-verbal conversation of the eyes can be very eloquent and can tell a lot about our thoughts and feelings.

It is easy to understand what thoughts a person is focused on. When we think about what we see, hear and feel, we recreate these pictures, sounds and sensations within ourselves. That is, we re-experience the information. Sometimes we are aware that we are doing this, sometimes we are not. But our gaze and the associated eye signals are directly related to the veracity of the information that we say aloud.

Studies in neuroscience have proven that the sequence of human eye movements reflects the strategy that they use to extract any information. It was also found that these rules apply throughout the world (only residents of a small area in Spain have a different oculomotor reaction).

"I see"

So, if a person uses the visualization technique for thinking, then his eyes always rise to the upper corners. They will not always be there, but the probability that the gaze will slip there, albeit for a short time, is 100%.

The angle of view also speaks volumes. If the person who is sitting opposite has his gaze moved from you to the right, this means that the person recalls some visual images, and if to the left, then he is most likely dreaming. When looking to the left corner, a person constructs in his imagination an image that he has never seen.

It is very easy to check this: ask, for example, whether a person has seen the sea. From where the gaze is directed, you will know whether it was on it or not. If he answered: “How great it was there,” and his eyes were in the left corner at that time, he is deceiving you (as well as himself). Smile and send him to the sea.

Imagination of visual images will give a look directed straight ahead, but defocused, "unseeing".

"I hear"

In the same way, a person acts who uses auditory (sound) messages for thinking, only the eyes do not go to the corners, but to the sides. A look directed to the left means the construction of sounds unfamiliar to him, to the right - speaks of the memory of what he heard.

"I feel"

Downward glance is very verbose! If a person from time to time looks away to the lower right corner, this means that at this time he is talking about something to himself. The lower right side is an internal dialogue, moreover, auditory (spoken).

If the eyes are diverted to the lower left corner, this means an appeal to kinesthetic feelings (memories of tactile and motor sensations). Also thoughts about taste and smell belong to this corner.

Pupil black hole

Pupil size can also be a reliable signal during communication. Pupils can expand or contract not only under certain lighting conditions, it also depends on the mood of the person. If a person is joyfully excited and pleasantly surprised, his pupils dilate (open gaze). If a person is negative, annoyed or angry, his pupils are narrowed to the minimum size (piercing look).

If a woman is in love with a man, then her pupils dilate when she looks at him, and he unmistakably recognizes this signal without even realizing it.

The pupils of infants and young children dilate in the presence of adults, as children subconsciously seek to attract attention and look the most attractive.

Gaze duration

Why do we feel comfortable with some people and awkward with others? Why are they ready to reveal all the secrets to some, while others seem to us not trustworthy? It all depends on how long they hold their gaze at us during the conversation.

If a person is dishonest or tries to hide important information, his gaze meets the gaze of the interlocutor for less than one third of the entire conversation. If eye contact continues for more than two-thirds of the conversation, this can mean one of two things: either your interlocutor finds you a very interesting or attractive person (at the same time
his pupils will dilate), or he is hostile to you (and his pupils will constrict).

If one person likes another, he will look at him often and for a long time. In other words, in order to establish a good relationship, people's views must meet 60-70 percent of the entire conversation.

A nervous, shy person whose gaze is constantly shifting and meeting the other person's gaze for less than 30 percent of the conversation time, generates little confidence.

If the person we are talking to drops their eyelids, this does not always mean tiredness, boredom or indifference. But man eludes us. By this he can make it clear that the conversation is over.

"Geography" of the gaze

The area of another person's face or body where you focus your gaze can significantly affect the outcome of personal communication.

When you are in business negotiations, focus your gaze on the bridge of your partner's nose - and you will give the impression of a serious, responsible and reliable person.

If your gaze does not fall below the eye level of the interlocutor, you will be able to keep the conversation under control.

When demonstrating something, we use a pen (pointer), which is followed by a glance. If you no longer want the person looking in the same direction, raise the pen to eye level with the other person. If a person after he raises his head and meets your gaze, it means that he has mastered everything that you tell him.

When the interlocutor's gaze drops below eye level, a friendly atmosphere arises. During this kind of informal communication, the gaze is usually located between the eyes and mouth of the interlocutor.

During intimate communication, the gaze can slide over the face of the interlocutor, focus on the lips, lower on the chin and other parts of the body. Men and women use this gaze to show their interest in each other.

People who are either interested in us or are hostile to us look askance at us. This can be a signal of courtship (friendly mood) or a signal of suspicion and critical attitude.

Serious people tend to select and weigh their words, control emotions and facial expressions, but a person is able to monitor simultaneously no more than two or three of all the reactions generated within. Thanks to such a "leak of information" as a glance, and if you have the appropriate knowledge and experience, it is possible to identify those feelings and aspirations that the interlocutor would prefer to hide.

The expression in the eyes is the key to a person's true thoughts. Attentive attitude to the interlocutor will allow you to find a common language much faster. And besides, it will increase your communication skills - and this is one of the main factors of a person's success in life.

Perhaps, today knowledge is useful to everyone, which will decipher and tell us how to understand that a person is lying. It's easy if learn a few secrets and be able to use them.

Psychology will put everything in its place, and gestures, facial expressions, phrases and glances will help you find out that the person is lying.

Nobody is immune to lies. Some people lie in small things, trying to reveal only half the truth, for someone lying is a hobby, but for someone it is a habit. But there is a category of people for whom lying has become a profession and each of us can be in the place of the victim of such a liar.

How to protect yourself from lies and determine that a person is lying? To understand this will help advice from psychologists able to analyze human behavior and reveal the main signs of a lie.

  1. Minimum gestures... People who talk from a pure heart are always emotional. They gesticulate to draw attention to their problem. The liar's gestures are minimal, he keeps them under control and uses them only unconsciously. It is subconscious signals that help us know that a person is lying.
  2. When a person lies, he trying to cover his face with his hands: often touches the forehead, lips or nose.
  3. You can recognize a liar by looking - he tries not to look the other person in the eye, his pupils are constricted. The liar very rarely blinks and rarely fixes his gaze in one point.
  4. The man who tells a lie holds a closed pose: crosses her arms over her chest or hugs herself slightly.
  5. If a person is not used to lying, he may be a little nervous, fiddle with a pen, sheet of paper or any other object. But this also happens with insecure people.
  6. The interlocutor who lies can take a short break in conversation: Coughing up or drinking water.

In fact, it is sometimes very difficult or almost impossible to determine that a person is lying. Some people are so believe their lies that they are very difficult to catch with the help of gestures and facial expressions. Such personalities lie constantly, a lie for them is a certain way of life or even a disease. But even here there are a couple of secrets to recognize whether a person is telling the truth or not.

If a person repeats a phrase like“I never lie” or “Have I ever lied to you?” Means he wants to hide the truth.

If your interlocutor does not have a phenomenal memory, then after a while he will forget the details about which he lied. He will repeat a well-thought-out lie down to the smallest detail, but specific questions will certainly throw him off balance. Ask to describe the situation in more detail or specify the circumstances under which it occurred. Usually liars start to get confused about details or come up with ridiculous situations.

Sometimes, during such checks, a person can behave aggressively or, on the contrary, wants to arouse pity in the interlocutor or endear him to himself. With such conversations the liar often tries to translate the topic or answer a question with a question. Try to play by the rules of the interlocutor and turn the conversation in a different direction. You will notice that the person has relaxed, calmed down and does not intend to return to the exciting topic anymore.

Where does a person look when he lies?

We promised to tell you how to understand that a person is lying in the eyes and where he is looking in this case. Of many people gives out a look, they may even look you in the eye, but they continue to lie.

When a person speaks the truth, his gaze is directed inward, as if into himself. He speaks in a measured tone, his lips pursed. On the contrary, a liar looks up and into the distance as if thinking about a nonexistent subject. He speaks too fast or, conversely, too slow. It can also betray the deceiver right gaze.

When thinking up a situation, a person can turn their head slightly to the right and look up. At the same time, he, as it were, imperceptibly tries to look at the interlocutor, studying his reaction.

How to understand that a person is lying to you by correspondence?

It happens that we cannot establish visual contact with the interlocutor. And here there are a couple of tricks... When a person is far away, he relaxes and can use words that will certainly give him away.

There is one telling story, how a girl exposed her boyfriend in a lie by reading his message. The guy wrote to his girlfriend something like this: "I am at home and will be there until the evening." After reading it, the girl realized that she was being deceived. After all, if her beloved was really at home, he would have written "here" and not "there." So, people are betrayed by carelessly spoken phrases. It is important to learn to read between the lines and catch such inconsistencies.

It has long been no secret that all people lie. They can cheat on little things or more important things. Those who do not want to become their victim need to be prepared for this turn of events and learn to recognize lies. To do this, you need to have extensive experience in communicating with people and constantly train your own observation skills. Learning to understand people is quite difficult, but still possible. Most often, lies are determined by eyes, facial expressions and gestures.

The eyes are a mirror ...

When a person lies, it is his eyes that often give him away. Having a desire, you can learn to control gestures or facial expressions, or think over a story to the smallest detail, but you will hardly be able to control eye movements. During a lie, a person feels very insecure and uncomfortable, so he tries to look away. If the interlocutor does not look directly in the eyes, this can be considered as the first sign of deception.

But not everything is so simple. Almost everyone knows how to detect lies in the eyes, so they use the "by contradiction" method. If a person looks straight ahead with an unblinking gaze, perhaps he wants to justify himself. An overly honest look often testifies to the truthfulness of the interlocutor's words. One gets the impression that he wants to penetrate the thoughts of the opponent and understand whether he believes him. And if the liar is caught by surprise, most likely, he will try to divert attention or go to another room.

It is almost impossible to control, so the person who is lying changes their gaze. The pupil becomes much smaller than usual.

Blood to the face ...

Detecting lies by the eyes is not the only way to recognize lies. When a person tells a lie, tiny wrinkles appear around their eyes. Sometimes you can even see them with the naked eye. If there are doubts about the sincerity of the opponent's words, it is worth closely observing his skin around his eyes.

Four cardinal points

Thinking about the eyes, you can observe the direction in which the interlocutor is looking. If his gaze is directed to the right, then he is deceiving. When people look up and straight, it means that at this moment they come up with a picture or image for themselves. To represent sounds or a phrase, the person will look to the right and straight ahead. When the script is ready, the deceiver will shift his gaze to the right and down. But these rules only apply when the person is right-handed. In a left-handed person, the position of the eyes when lying is the opposite.

If the gaze quickly moves from one object to another, then this is also a reason to think about how to determine a lie by the eyes.

Guilt

Knowing the basic secrets, you can easily determine whether a person is cheating or not. Many people during a lying story experience At this time, the eyes go down, and sometimes to the side. To identify lies, it is necessary to compare the movements of the eyeballs with the words spoken by the opponent.

"Fixed" eyes

Psychologists are sure that a frozen gaze is a sign that a person is telling a lie. To check this, it is enough to ask the interlocutor to remember some detail. If he continues to stare straight ahead and doesn't blink, most likely he cannot be trusted. In the case when the opponent answers the question posed without hesitation and without changing the position of the eyes, one can suspect him of insincerity. When the number of blinks increases, this indicates that the person feels uncomfortable and wants to withdraw from the outside world.

But the definition of lies in the eyes in this way is not fair in the case when the events took place ten to fifteen minutes ago. Also, do not get hung up on a fixed gaze when a person provides very important information for him, for example, an address or phone number.

A sharp look away

When communicating with a person, you can sometimes notice how he quickly averts his eyes to the side during the story, and then again looks at the interlocutor. It is very likely that such actions of his indicate that he is trying to hide something.

If the whole conversation the interlocutor looked directly and openly, and when touching on a certain topic began to look away or avoid direct contact, then this is one of the signs of how to recognize a lie by the eyes. But sometimes insecure and insecure people behave this way if the topic of the conversation makes them feel uncomfortable. In this case, it makes no sense to talk about deception on the basis of this feature alone.

Frightened facial expression

The person who cheats is always afraid of being exposed. Therefore, during a conversation, he may have a little scared. But only an experienced psychologist will be able to distinguish him from the usual embarrassment in front of an unfamiliar person or an unusual situation.

Eyes are not the only indicator of a lie. When analyzing the behavior of the interlocutor, it is worth assessing the complete picture: pay attention to gestures, posture and facial expressions. Any information about a person will be useful in order to correctly match words and "picture". Therefore, it is not worth doing.

Mimicry while lying

Knowing the position of the eyes when lying is important, but not enough. It is necessary to observe the person's speech, his movements and behavior. During a false story, changes will certainly be noticeable. It is necessary to evaluate facial expressions and gestures only in conjunction with speech and voice parameters.

Intonation and smile

When the other person is cheating, his speech and intonation will change. The voice may tremble, and the words are pronounced more slowly or, conversely, faster. Some people develop hoarseness or high notes slip. If the interlocutor is shy, then he may start to stutter.

A smile can also tell you insincerity. Many people smile a little when they tell a lie. The interlocutor should be alerted if the smile is completely inappropriate. This facial expression allows you to hide a little awkwardness and excitement. But this does not apply to cheerful people who always try to smile.

Facial muscle tension

If you look very closely at your opponent, you can figure out whether he is cheating or not. It will be given by micro-tension of the facial muscles, which lasts for several seconds. No matter how “stony” the interlocutor speaks, instant tension is still inevitable.

The deceiver betrays not only the position of the eyes when lying, but also the uncontrollable skin and other parts of the face. The most common are: lip twitching, rapid blinking, or skin discoloration.

Lying gestures

Well-known experts agreed that when a person cheats, he performs typical actions:

  • touches the face with his hands;
  • covers his mouth;
  • scratches nose, rubs eyes, or touches ear;
  • pulls back the collar on the clothes.

But all these gestures can speak of lies only when there are other signs of deception. Therefore, the most reliable is the definition of lies by eyes, facial expressions, movements and behavior. Learning to diagnose a lie can help you avoid being a victim and always feel confident.

As practice shows, the person who often communicates with other people is capable of accurately recognizing lies. He should also be able to soberly perceive the situation and events, be attentive and try to notice all the nuances and subtleties of their behavior. Rich communication experience and the ability to analyze will help to correctly perceive all the information received and assess its reliability.
