However, everything is not as sad as it might seem at first glance. The high-profile study garnered a flurry of critical comments almost immediately after its publication, including from respected scientists who strongly disagree with the conclusions.

"This is the worst study I've ever seen in the journal Nature," said Jim Vaupel, an aging specialist at the Population Research Institute. Max Planck (Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research). “I was outraged that a magazine that I respect a lot published this buffoonery.”
