These verbs need to be learned first
Notes:
- Over time, some verbs from the wrong almost turned into the correct. For example, even in not very old textbooks it is written that verb To Work. - Wrong, it has forms: work - Wrought - Wrought. Now form wrought. It is almost not used, except in established expressions like "Wrought Iron" (forged iron), so I did not include it in this table.
- Verbs to learn. (learn), To Lean. (Lean) are also more common as correct: learned, leued, especially in the United States.
- Pay attention to forms read - Read - Read. The word is written equally, and read in different ways.
- Do not confuse verb wind (twist) and noun wind - Wind. They are equally written, but have a different pronunciation and meaning.
- In the British version of the verbs sew pronounced as
Verb - king of English. Even the shortest proposal always contains verb. And vice versa, from the verb you can make a proposal in one word, for example " Stop!"(" Stop! ").
The verbs are sometimes called "words of action." Partly this is true. Many verbs convey the idea of action, "doing" something - for example " rUN."(Run)," fight"(Fight)," do." (do), " work"(Work).
But some verbs have the importance of not actions, but existence, not "doing", but "being". These are such verbs like " bE." (be), " eXIST"(Exist)," seeem."(Seem)," belong"(Belong).
To the verb as a faithful attached to be subject to. So, in the sentence " Mary Speaks english"(" Mary speaks English ") Mary. - subject, and verb sPEAKS -predicate.
Thus, it can be said that verbs are words that explain that the subject does ( does.) or what / which is ( iS.), and describe:
- action (" John Plays Football."-" John plays football ");
- state (" Ashley Sems Kind."-" Ashley seems good ").
The verbs in English have one feature. Most words of other parts of speech -, etc. - do not change (although the nouns have the forms of the only and plural). But almost all verbs vary in grammatical forms. For example, in the verb " to Work."(" Work ") five forms:
- to Work, Working, Works, Worked, Working
We note, however, it is a bit compared with languages in which one verb can have 30 or more forms (for example, Hungarian) - if you have begun to study the verbs on, you can breathe with relief.

The concept of "incorrect verbs" when studying English arises almost simultaneously with the beginning of a detailed study of times. The division on the right and wrong verbs in English becomes important when the need arises to put the verb in the second or third form in accordance with the desired time. It is from what kind of verb takes in these forms and depends, it applies to the correct or incorrect.
You can continue reading or see an animated video in which in 5 minutes we tried to transfer the main content of the article. At the end of the view, do not forget to fulfill your knowledge.
The verbs of the "right" category the second and third forms are the same; They differ from the first form only by the end -ed.
But the wrong verbs of the English language are a special group that has to pay much more attention and time. The difficulty is that ways of education of the second and third forms of these verbs are not a logic or rules:
- some of them do not change the form at all;
cUT - CUT - CUT (Cut)
- some coincide the second and third forms;
have - HAD - HAD (HAVE)
- and there are such incorrect verbs in English, in which all three forms are different.
dO - DID - Done
Incorrect English verbs are like a multiplication table in mathematics: to memorize for a long time and troublesome, but it is worth it, because it is impossible to overestimate the enormous practical value. In particular, the knowledge of the forms of incorrect verbs is significantly expanding the language capabilities.
The total amount of irregular verbs is about 500 (and this is not only commonly used, but also outdated options). If we talk about the useful verbs that can be useful in modern conditions, you will need only 220- 250 units of the total number, i.e. Literally half.
According to some linguists, knowledge of the entire table with irregular verbs, raises the level of knowledge of the language by as much as 5%!
English Wrong verbs are a ready-made set of words that are guaranteed to cover most of the actions from all major conversational topics.
How to distinguish the right verbs from the wrong?
Unfortunately, since the wrong verbs of the second and third forms are formed unpredictable, you will have to literally recognize them "in the face".
All students who explore English must have a table of incorrect verbs. English incorrect verbs with transcription and translation are in any, even most primitive, tutorial (usually their table is located at the end of the publication).
It is important to remember Writing and pronunciation of the three forms of each verb from the table. That is, if the verb is incorrect, it is necessary to learn not one word, as usual, and immediately three.
The table of incorrect verbs of the English language - a landmark for which some time will have to be checked - the correct verb in front of us or not.
As a rule, the main irregular verbs of the English are the most consumed in speech, texts and exercises. Gradually, the forms of incorrect verbs are remembered in English, and the table is quenched more and less.
Modern English is predisposed to the simplification of complex grammatical structures, it concerns and incorrect verbs. Forms of incorrect verbs in English are modified over time and gradually strive for "correctness". Sometimes the verb can be used and as correct, and how incorrect. For example:
study - Learn-learnt (Learned) - Learnt (Learned)).
In ambiguous cases, exceptions, our recommendation will be as follows: with any doubt it is better to turn to Oxford dictionary. This publication is considered to have a certain "code" linguists governing the use of one or another lexeme. Modern editions of this book include not only traditional options, but also most Americanized versions of irregular verbons.
Where are the forms of incorrect verbs?
So, now let's go to the most important thing: we will consider in more detail three verb forms and their participation in English grammar:
First - This is perhaps the simplest variation - infinitive (Infinitive). Used:
- usually as an indefinite form;
- when using Present Simple, and in the 3rd face of the only number, the verb gets the ending -S (for example, Runs, Goes).
Second - performs in the simplest and understandable speech situations: when using Past Simple.
Third - past participle ( PAST PARTICIPLE or PARTICIPLE II). There are three main options when it is used:
- as directly occasion of the past time;
- as part of the design of Present Perfect;
- in the formation of all forms of the suffering pledge.
As you can see, almost all species-temporary forms of English are "tied" on a particular form of verbs. Therefore, any form of verb is essential in building competent speech.

To successfully study a foreign language, it is necessary to lay a certain foundation consisting of basic skills. In addition to the lexic reserve and developed pronunciation, grammatical knowledge includes this basis. Undoubtedly, the system of time and verb forms is essential for English grammar, without knowing no knowledge. Today, studying the topic, we are compatible with a set of vocabulary with dealing with grammar, as we will analyze one of the most necessary basic concepts - incorrect verbs of the English language. Consider the essence of the phenomenon, as well as we give a list of all the necessary words with transcription and translation into Russian.
In order to answer the question that delivered in the title, take a small excursion to the theory.
British verbs have several basic forms that help to form aspects of time:
- Infinitive - It is the initial, vocabulary form. ().
- Past indefinite - form for expressing past events. According to the rule, it is formed by joining the ending -ed to the infinitive. ().
- Past participle - The form required for the formation of perfect times and suffering pledges. According to grammatical standards, it must coincide with the previous category, i.e. Also join -ed. ().
- Communion of valid time - It is not always distinguished as a separate form, but it should be noted that these are verbs with the ending -ing, which are used in the times of the Continuous group. ()
Today we are interested in the second and third points of the list, since they are responsible for the correctness or irregularity of the verb. We have already noted that the general rule for the formation of past forms is adding the end -ed. But, by virtue of historical reasons, well-established language clichés do not always comply with the standards, and it is much easier to take exceptions than to try to change the established way. That is why there is such a thing as the wrong verbs of the English language. English grammar calls this phenomenon of irregular verbs.
The irregular belongs include the verbs that the form of the past time is not formed by general rule, that is, they are characterized by atypical lifting. Such verb shapes have to be memorized, as they are individual for each case. It is noteworthy that the proportion of use in the speech of improper English verbs is about 70%. It means that only 30% of all frequently used verbs are observed by the general rule.
At this end, the theory and move on to the practical part, in which we consider examples of incorrect verbs of English with translation and transcription. This will allow you to combine memorization of vocabulary and work with pronunciation.
