Transfer another person's speech is possible in two different ways: quote or convey in your own words. Citation of the words of another person is called a direct speech, the transfer in its words - the speech of the indirect. When using indirect speech in English there are several rules, which will be discussed below.

An indirect speech in English will agree the time of the verbs used in a secondary sentence with the verbs used in the main part of the proposal. If we use the verbs in a Present or Future in the main sentence, the verb shape in the dependent remains unchanged. If we are dealing with a priority sentence with the verb used in time Past, then in the pressing offer, all verbs are also used in the time of PAST.

SHE SAYS THAT THE CLEANING IS FINISHED. / She says that cleaning is completed.

He Will Want To Watch What You Have Written. / He wants to see what you wrote.

She Wanted To Know What You Had Bought. / She wanted to know what you purchased.

If you need to use modal verbs in an indirect speech, it is necessary to adhere to the rules that the modal verb, located in the appropriate sentence, should be used in the same time that the verb is a fault in the main thing.

Katy Claimed That She Could Read Minds. / Keta argued that he could read thoughts.

Very often in speech, we need to transfer someone's words (someone said something), and often we do it with our own words, avoiding direct speech. How do we do it? Very simple, we turn it into an apparent offer.

John Said, "I Want to Get a New Job". - John said: "I want to get a new job."
John Said (That) He Wanted to Get a New Job. - John said he wants to get a new job.

About how to make it correctly we will talk further.

In English there are a number of features that should be considered when changing direct Speech in indirect.

In order to translate direct speech into the indirect, you need to omit the comma after the words introduced direct speech, and quotes. Often indirect speech in English is introduced by the Union that.which, however, can be omitted (which is why we put the word that. In the brackets in the example above).

You had to pay attention that we had a temporary category ( I Want on the I Wanted.), such a phenomenon in English is called coordination of times (This is the dependence of the verb time in the appropriate sentence from the time of the verb in the main).

In the table below you can see all cases of similar transformations.

If the faithful main offer is worth present or future Time, then the attack will stand in the very time that was in direct speech.

A little more difficult situation if the faithful main offer is worth past time here just comes into force the very rules coordination of times.
