Ingredients - Sodium polyacrylate, white substance in a sachet.

The sodium polyacrylate in this set is highly absorbent. It is able to absorb liquid 200-300 times its own volume.

We tried to make a snowman out of it. Children (my and neighbors) enthusiastically began to knead it, in turn. The experiment was observed by 5 children, so they sculpted slowly.

My impressions

It is difficult to surprise modern children, but in the summer this experiment went off with a bang. Of course, this is entertainment for once. Do not think that you can buy a bag of sodium polyacrylate for every holiday and it will make everyone happy.

Cons - after the experiment, you need to wash your hands. The experiment is not suitable for very young children. They can even pull into your mouth and you need to carefully monitor so that you wash your hands later. I really liked the snowball, it is without a strong smell, warm and so pleasant. After playing with him, we left the snow in the basin. Slowly, he began to melt, but turned not into water, but into something slimy and viscous. I think that you should not throw this snow into the toilet, but it is better to dispose of it in the trash can.

Experiment in box #09: artificial snow

Set from the section: physics for children from 6 years old.

Time of the experiment: from 10 min.

Level of difficulty: 1 of 3

Set composition: sodium polyacrylate, instruction (+ video)

Description: To conduct the experiment, you will need two glasses of water and the contents of the kit. As soon as the powder comes into contact with water, it immediately begins to absorb it and increase in volume. From a small sachet two liters of fluffy "snow"!

Children will love playing with this "snow", because it can be used to arrange a toy snowfall, arrange "snow" drifts for toy cars and even recreate a winter fairy forest.

Unlike other sets from the "" series, artificial snow can be reused. Moisture will gradually evaporate from it, and the snow will begin to lose volume. But, it is worth adding a little water again, and the volume will return. And if you spread the snow in a thin layer on a newspaper, and let the water evaporate completely, then you can put it in a box and get it again when the child wants to play with the “snow” again.

Video

The experiment demonstrates the absorbent properties of sodium polyacrylate. This composition is actively used to absorb moisture, for example, in baby diapers.

Photos from our customers

This video was filmed and sent to us by one of our customers. Two young experimenters, Elisha and Arsyusha, independently carry out this experiment without outside help. See how easy and fast they make "artificial snow" from a set.

The powder itself is cool, pour it into your palms and pour warm water on top (the hotter it is, the faster the reaction will take place) and soft artificial snow grows in your hands. One minus - very expensive.

We regretted that we did the experiment not on the street, because, naturally, the children wanted to play snowballs, but I did not allow it to be done in the kitchen. At the end, we added water with gouache, so our snow turned blue.

It’s nice to mess around in it (like in kinetic sand), but you won’t be able to mold something out of it. At first we wanted to make a snowman, then at least a caterpillar, but in the end we just played with him in a bowl.

I tested another set, from "Simple Science" #experiment in a box. The kit includes a nice package, a bag of white powder - sodium polyacrylate and instructions containing information about the substance, its use, and safety precautions. It turns out that in addition to the experience presented on the manufacturer's website, you can easily find many others on the Internet. Based on their motives, I also conducted a simple experiment in my lesson). I pour water into a glass containing a little powder, wait until it is completely absorbed and turn the glass over https://youtu.be/NiZOs5CsVnE. It turns out that the powder can be reused, allowing it to dry first. In general, I expected less, but it turned out to be interesting).

Simple and interesting experiences for kids. A great way to get kids excited about science. Good idea for a gift. Children have many questions from the category of "why is this happening."

Simple, independent and fun. And most importantly - visually, because it is one thing to hear or read that this powder can absorb a lot of water and another thing to see.

Scientific experiments and experiments Simple science will clearly and in an accessible form show children how interesting and exciting chemistry is. All the necessary ingredients for the experiment are collected in small boxes, detailed instructions and a description of the experiment are given. Experiment set in a box Simple science allows the child to conduct an experiment on his own.

The Artificial Snow Experiment Kit is one of the most popular kits from Simple Science. Our customers buy the Artificial Snow experience several times, order as a gift for friends or as small but interesting gifts for children at school.

Children really like to create, and then play with "snow". The experience does not require serious preparation or a long time. To make artificial snow with your own hands, it is enough to take 2 glasses and the contents of the kit. As soon as the water and the powder combine, the magic begins - you can witness how the snow appears. From one bag you get 2 liters of "snow".

The advantage of this set is that it can be used several times. Gradually, the moisture from the snow will evaporate, but if you add water again, the volume will gradually begin to increase. You can also dry the snow to a state of powder, remove it, and then use it again. To do this, spread the snow on paper in a thin layer and let it dry.

To buy the Artificial Snow Experiment Set, just add the product to your shopping cart and choose a convenient delivery method.

Experiment Artificial Snow- this is a sea of fun ideas in one box. The chemical that is in it, due to its incredible absorbent properties, increases in volume and forms a real snowdrift right in the room. Get to know science fun!

Snow that doesn't melt

The box contains instructions and a bag of sodium polyacrylate. Empty its contents into a two-liter jar or other large vessel. Then slowly pour a glass of water into it and mix thoroughly. Do the same with the second glass. Right before our eyes, the substance begins to swell and increase in size. As a result, a whole liter of soft and crumbly snow is obtained from one bag. This is due to the fact that sodium polyacrylate is able to absorb liquid 300 times its own volume.

If the "snow" is too watery, then you have overdone the liquid.

The substance can be reused: when moisture evaporates, it loses volume and gradually returns to its original state. Dried "snow" can be stored in a box and taken out when the child wants to play with it. How? Lots of options! You can sculpt a snowman, play snowballs, arrange "drifts" for cars, recreate a wonderful winter landscape.

Benefits for development

An experiment in a box expands knowledge about the world, develops imagination, curiosity, patience and accuracy.
