Reading in a foreign language is one of the most important learning elements. It expands the horizons of students, introduces them with the works of foreign authors, develops thinking and imagination, creates additional motivation to learning a language and much more. All this can be achieved by entering regular homework lessons in the learning process. Such lessons will allow the teacher to diversify the forms of work, to ensure the practical application of the studied in traditional lessons of a foreign language, develop oral speech skills when discussing the text, form various reading skills, significantly expand the lexical stock of students. However, this is not enough to choose interesting children and the corresponding language of the book. A well-thought-out system of tasks for each chapter aimed at working out a new vocabulary, the formation of a variety of skills, as well as generalizing games and creative tasks. Unfortunately, despite the rich assortment of multi-level books for reading, most of them are not intended for the authors for work within the urgent system and contain only a few small tasks, as a rule, aimed at checking a general understanding of the text.

We would like to offer our colleagues with the development of two books and some guidelines on working with them. We tested 'The Sunbird Mystery' and 'Swiss Family Robinson' (from a series of books to read to the textbook Way Ahead publishing house Macmillan Publishers Ltd) in the 5th grades of school with in-depth learning English. Although books for reading to the textbook Way Ahead are designed for independent extracurricular reading, they are ideal for both home reading lessons in English. They are fascinating in content, written for children and correspond to their interests. Books are rich in vocabulary, but are not difficult to understand, so their reading remains pleasure, and not turns into a grave work. Books are divided into small chapters, perfectly suitable for portion reading and discussion. Finally, the abundance of colorful illustrations facilitates understanding of the content and strengthens the motivation to read.

When reading at home and one lesson a week, dedicated to working with text and discussion, one book will take half a year.

For the convenience of use and increase efficiency, we allocated the key vocabulary of each chapter and developed a number of tasks. These materials are divided into 3 parts:

1. Leaflet with words and tasks for each student
2. Additional tasks that the teacher can use in lessons (See Appendix.doc)
3. Set of tasks for a generalizing lesson (See Appendix.doc)

As a rule, the 5th grade is the first year of classical home reading, and we set themselves the task to teach the guys with the main techniques for working with a book and with the text. Here are some basic principles we guided:

• Only a few first chapters are given in the finished form - with the translation. Subsequently, students themselves translate data from new words into Russian, using the dictionary and contextual guesses, or find the English equivalents of these Russian expressions in the text.
• Tasks to the texts are diverse in shape. It is assumed that, starting from 3 chapters, students themselves will take part in the preparation of the task, making it up, for example, a list of faithful and incorrect statements on the content of the chapter.
• We consider one of the important types of tasks. In addition to the classic detailed recovery, we used short retelling Contents, retelling with actual errors, which must be found by listeners, and retelling from one of the heroes. To facilitate the work of the guys, each chapter is as the first time set home to read and fulfill the tasks in the text, and only a second time, after its analysis in the classroom and the development of vocabulary, - for recovery.
• Books contain a large number of color illustrations. As one of the types of work, we used a description of the pictures using already well-known students about heroes. Since the events in the book are described in the past time, work in home reading lessons is mainly mainly in Past Simple, and the descriptions of the pictures in the present time (Present Continuous, Present Perfect, Be Going To) are very useful for students and allow you to diversify work forms.
• Extremely useful for guys and reading out loud, including on the roles, for which the living dialogues 'The Sunbird Mystery' are suitable.
• A summary lesson on the book may include not only the game quiz (in the form of personal or team competition), but also creative tasks. For example, we offered a student to add our chapter about the adventures of the Robinson family.
