When developing the order, the militia cross of 1812 was taken as a basis. During the approval of the sketch for the order by the artist E.I. But this option was not approved. The badge of the order is an equal-pointed cross with rounded ends, embossed rays and a raised side along the edge. The distance between the ends of the cross is 40 mm. The award is made of silver. What is the badge of the Order of Courage? It is an equal-pointed silver cross with rounded ends. The distance between the opposite parts is 40 mm. Courage and composure, courage and readiness for self-sacrifice, military skill and will to victory of our servicemen - participants in the peace enforcement operation in South Ossetia - are appreciated. As Krasnaya Zvezda already reported, on August 15 and 18, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signed two decrees “On awarding servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation with state awards of the Russian Federation”.
The high rank of Hero of the Russian Federation was awarded to two officers: the deputy commander of the 135th motorized rifle regiment for educational work Major Denis Vetchinov (posthumously) and the commander of the peacekeeping battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Konstantin Timerman.
Among the awardees were Colonel-General Sergei Makarov, commander of the North Caucasian Military District, and Vice-Admiral Sergei Menyailo, commander of the Novorossiysk naval base.
