The strictest connoisseur of the first works of Agnia Barto was her father Lev Nikolaevich Volov, a veterinarian. He was very fond of reading, knew by heart many fables of I. Krylov, and above all writers he put Leo Tolstoy. When Agniya Barto was very young and could not yet read, he gave her a book called "How Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy Lives and Works." With the help of this book and other serious books, without a primer, my father taught Agniya the alphabet, and she began to read on her own. Several years passed, and Agnia realized that poetry, verses were more important for her. And in 1925 her first book was published. Agniya Barto was then 19 years old. Agniya Barto's poems were liked by readers.
