What items are needed for architectural. What exams do you need to take as an architect?

A graduate of the Faculty of Architecture shares her experience: how to prepare for admission, what it is like to learn from Soviet teachers and why to become an architect

Architect, graduated from GUZ

I decided to study as an architect by chance. About a year before admission, I realized that I wanted to do something tangible that I could touch. However, I had a craving for organizing space for a long time: as a child, I liked to rearrange furniture in a dollhouse and build huts.

In 2016 I graduated from the State University of Land Management. Now I work in my specialty in an architectural firm. I'll tell you what difficulties I had on the way from admission to work.

What an architect does

An architect is a person who knows how to conveniently and reliably arrange objects in space. He designs buildings, supervises construction and deals with project documentation.

There are also design engineers. If the architect is more likely to come up with how the building will look outside and inside, then the engineer develops and calculates the structures. You can work as an engineer with an architectural education, but it's better to finish your studies.

Where to go

There are 10 universities in Moscow with an architectural specialty:

  • MARCHI - Moscow Architectural Institute
  • MGSU - Moscow State University of Civil Engineering
  • GUZ - State University of Land Management
  • RUDN - Russian University Friendship between nations
  • MIIGAiK - Moscow State University geodesy and cartography
  • MASI - Moscow Institute of Architecture and Civil Engineering
  • MGAKHI them. IN AND. Surikova - Moscow State Academic art institute named after V.I. Surikova
  • Moscow branch of RMAT
  • IIR - Institute for the Art of Restoration
  • RAZHViZ - Russian academy painting, sculpture and architecture by Ilya Glazunov

MARCHI is the main and oldest architectural university in the country; other institutes only have departments of architecture. It is he who sets learning programs and is quoted more than the rest. Therefore, it is difficult to enter the Moscow Architectural Institute: there is a very high competition. I know people who have been there for several years.

The rest of the universities are simpler, but, by and large, the quality of education is the same in all universities. Because according to the same program, the same teachers teach - they move from one university to another.

When choosing an institute, it is rather status that plays a role: many employers hire only MARCHI graduates. It is also worth looking at the bias of the institution. For example, in MGSU it is construction, in GUZ it is land management.

What you need for admission

Exams. To apply for an architect, it is enough to pass the exam in mathematics and the Russian language. More important are the creative exams: drawing and sketching. In the picture you need to draw a head and a small capital. In the drawing - to perform an axonometry, that is, draw a facade, a side view and a plan from above of a volumetric part. Also, in some universities, there is painting at the entrance.

Drawing of the head and capitals

Drawing of a part in projections

Timing. I prepared in less than a year, but it was a critical time frame. It is better to start in a year or two. Especially if you don't have an art school behind you. Some of my classmates graduated from art and already knew how to do what I was mastering at an accelerated pace.

On the other hand, passing exams depends more on desire than ability. The more you want to get into architecture, the more chances you have to enter.

Where to prepare. The main thing is to find good teacher, which coaches on the main exams. I advise you to look for it at the institute where you are going to enter. Also, universities have training courses... But they give much less than individual lessons.

What is it like to learn

Now architects study under the bachelor's program for 5 years. I found the time when all 6 studied.

Items. Profile subject in architecture it is a project. It gives out objects that you have to come up with from start to finish. At first, it's something simple: a playground or a gas station. In the following courses, we designed banks, museums, holiday homes and other complex public buildings.

Working on the project was interesting, but most of all I liked the history of architecture. We were especially lucky with the teacher of modern architecture- I discovered this direction for myself only thanks to him.

In general, architectural art allows you to look at the space around you in a different way. Not the way the average person is used to seeing. You walk down the street and understand the time, the style, why it happened with this particular street. You begin to understand art, to be interested in painting. This is very nice and great.

Difficulties. From the very beginning of our studies, we had to get out. I don’t know about other universities, but they taught poorly at the State University. Already on the first pair, we were asked to assemble a project, but they did not explain how to do it. The teacher used terms that I had heard for the first time - for example, "master plan" and "explication". But no one has shown how they should look. In the end, we had two days to get the blueprints and information.

But it was a good school: in life you need to be able to find the information you need yourself. Self-education at the institute prepared me for this.

Another difficulty related to computers and architectural programs. We were allowed to draw in them only in the fourth year - the teachers were sure that the computer does everything for us. For drawings made in the program, even lower grades were made. And the teachers who taught the programs did not know them. Therefore, we had to figure it out ourselves.

I think it has to do with the generation of teachers. Most of them came from the old Soviet school and were not interested in passing on information to us.

Of course, there were also worthy teachers who conducted classes in an interesting way and willingly shared their knowledge. They came to us in their fourth year. One of them led projects, and he was a person “burning” with his work, always wanting to learn something new. He supported our ideas and made it so that the work on the project was a joy to us.

Practice

At the end of each course, we had practice. In the first year we went to take measurements in Borisoglebsk. There we were assigned to groups and sent to buildings - usually dilapidated or historical. The point was to take measurements, draw this building and hand it over as a project.

A dilapidated church in the village of Bolshie Alabukhi, in which we took measurements

On another course, we were sent to the restoration practice at the Sukhanovo estate. It was interesting to me, because we lived on the territory of the estate and could go around all the buildings, look at them and touch them. But in the beginning, this practice was not organized very well: we were not given any tools, no first-aid kits, no normal ladders. And we had to prepare the building for restoration: clean the walls and cornices, cut down the undergrowth. Then everything was given out, but at first I had to use the means at my own peril and risk.

In the sixth year, as an internship, we had to find a place - an architectural firm, bureau or company - and work there for two months. But none of the employers wanted to hire a student, even for nothing. After all, in fact, we still could not do anything, and no one wanted to waste time on us. As a result, we all settled down at the last moment only thanks to acquaintances, relatives and friends who had some kind of connections in architecture.

Where to work

Specialty. After the architectural one, you can work on any applied specialty related to drawing and drafting: architect, designer, designer, design engineer. They are needed in architectural firms, bureaus, design studios.

You can also become an artist and paint freely, for example, make scenery in a theater. Or become a teacher in these specialties.

An experience. To get work experience by the end of your studies, you need to get a job as early as possible. But physically it is difficult: due to the loads and voluminous tasks, we often did not sleep at night. I didn't manage to allocate time and energy for work. Some guys managed to earn extra money, albeit to the detriment of their studies. I think they did the right thing - in the end, employers are only interested in experience, not your diploma and grades.

How much do architects get

There are two ways to work as an architect.

In the office. This is a work from 9 to 18, where you, together with other architects, participate in a project. Tasks are distributed among everyone: someone draws, someone goes to measurements or choose materials. The project is supervised by the chief architect. He also communicates with clients.

💰 The salary of an office worker is anywhere from 30,000 to 150,000 rubles. The latter is the chief architect for the project.

To myself. An architect can leave the office and look for clients himself. But if you go freelance, you have to literally live with architecture. Because such people never rest, and architecture for them is a way of life.

A freelance architect runs the project entirely alone. He communicates with customers, draws, travels to objects, selects furniture, supervises contractors and monitors construction. Plus, he has a higher responsibility: he is also responsible for the reliability of structures.

💰 This is, of course, completely different money. Much more than you can get in the office. For example, on a project of a whole house, with a complete arrangement and engineering, you can earn 600,000 rubles.

What is worth going to the architectural

I cannot say that the profession of an architect is in demand. It's hard to find a job. Now everyone needs IT specialists and programmers who create virtual reality.

But architecture is interesting: it's great when you can create something pleasing to the eye. Therefore, if you go to architectural, then you must love it very much. If you don’t feel that it’s a vital necessity for you, don’t go. There is a lot of creativity in architecture, and it takes all of you.

In the end, of course, you will take your place. But only with a great love for architecture will you achieve real success.

About six months ago, I wrote an article for a small magazine on the topic of architecture education. Sent and forgot so I don't know her further destiny actually, and not very interesting. After a while, I admit that this is far from best material for the applicant, but maybe someone will need it. And for professionals - so for the sake of idle interest. In advance I ask you not to reproach for mistakes and bloopers.

- who is suitable for the profession;

The profession of an architect covers such a large field of activity that almost any person can find himself in it. Here the question of motivation for mastering this profession is important. In a nutshell, I will describe the motivations with which it is worth going into architecture, and with which it is not. No. 1 - creative ambitions, without them there is nothing to do in architecture. There should be a desire to constantly create something new, and, moreover, the best. The desire to be famous (or popular) is very important. If you look at the foreign "stars" of architecture: Norman Foster, Santiago Calatrava, Frank Gerry - they are all public people. It is important not only the desire to create, but also to tell the whole world about it. Another motivation is the desire to be a versatile person. The profession of an architect is at the intersection of an engineer and an artist. The desire to "know everything" will greatly help the future specialist.

Now what can get in the way. First, the search for the "easy way". In architecture, 5% is talent and the rest is work. This is a very difficult profession indeed. Before my eyes, people fainted from overwork, earned chronic diseases while studying. There have even been deaths. We must be ready for this and not be afraid. Secondly, the desire to make a lot of money, and if possible immediately. A good architect matures slowly like wine. In the beginning, it is very cheap, but after years of work it becomes expensive. This, too, must be realized. There will be big earnings, but the path to them is quite long. Thirdly, excessive sensitivity will greatly interfere in the profession. The amount of criticism always exceeds the amount of praise. Especially at the beginning of the journey. One must be able to take everything calmly. Every good architect has heard many times about where his arms grow from, what a straw he has in his head, and that he will never become an architect. You cannot take such statements to heart.

Based on the foregoing, I think it will not be difficult to create a portrait of a person who is suitable for this profession and try it on for yourself.

- short review universities;

The choice of a university for obtaining an architectural education is, of course, important, but not critical. The specifics of studying to be an architect is such that on average, according to the general opinion, a university can get a wonderful architectural education. The main thing is the teachers creative specialties that will meet on the way of the student. The programs of universities and architecture departments are roughly similar. The only big plus prestigious universities like the Moscow Architectural Institute, for example, there is a greater chance of meeting an excellent teacher.

It is best not to force the preparation for a creative competition. Each university has its own very strict requirements for drawing and sketching. The best option is preparatory courses or private lessons with teachers of the university where you are planning to enter. A competent teacher will prepare a person "from scratch" before passing the exam in a year or a year and a half. Oddly enough, but it's good if the applicant has never studied drawing anywhere. It is easier for the teacher to immediately put in the correct technique than to correct the "school mistakes". It is not worth preparing too much for the creative exam in advance. Better in a year, but with great intensity so that future student"Got in shape" for the exam and did not get tired of many years of preparation.

In my opinion, the most big mistake- an attempt to enter one university for several years. Years of preparation for entering even the best architecture university will not give you any knowledge in architecture. We must always remember that the goal is to become an architect, and not to enter the Moscow Architectural Institute or MGSU. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to move forward: to enter another university; to the same university, but for the evening or extramural; do not discard the option of getting an average special education... Preparing for admission is a stumbling block, and going to a vocational school is a career path that can be more thorny than expected.

- how the studies are going;

When I studied at the Moscow Architectural Institute, there was a saying: "To leave the institute is much more difficult than to enter." There is some truth in this. You can, of course, talk a lot about how hard it is to study, there are conflicts with teachers, but getting an architectural education is extremely interesting, regardless of whether the student is a "physicist or a lyricist." It's all about the same interface between an engineer and an artist. All subjects can be roughly divided into 3 types: creative, engineering and general education. Traditionally, students go to creative subjects - project, drawing; from time to time appear on engineering - structures, strength materials, architectural physics; very rarely they remember about general education subjects - philosophy, sociology. This is a bad tradition. There are no random items in the program. All the knowledge that the institute gives will be useful in the profession, but in one case it is obvious - the project, structures, materials science; but not in the other.

I will give small example... I attended philosophy classes 2-3 times a semester. I explained this to myself by the fact that the knowledge of Kant and Hegel will not be useful to me in architectural practice. I got my triple in the test and was satisfied. Years later, in graduate school, I took a course in philosophy of science. Only there I saw how deep the philosophical roots are in architecture and work in modern architecture without knowledge of philosophy is simply impossible. I had to waste time reading textbooks and pulling my hair out of annoyance that I did not attend classes at the institute.

But, of course, the most important subject is architectural design. Essentially, all other subjects in the program serve to advance the student in that subject. Many of my colleagues remember the institute project as “ Golden time". This is because the imagination of the architect is not limited by anything. There are no economic requirements, boring customers, uncompromising subcontractors. This is the best opportunity to show your creativity. It is no coincidence that when applying for a job, they often ask for college work. Working on a club, museum, fire station, you need to understand that for you, most likely, it is the only project on this topic. It is better to spare no effort and time on the project. It is then that the potential for growth in the profession is laid. The main architects and "stars" of architecture start with interesting creative projects.

- the logic of a professional's career;

Now the overwhelming majority of students start working in the 2nd or 3rd year. I think it's good, but only in moderation. The part-time job helps in mastering architectural programs, gives a first idea of architectural practice and psychologically prepares for future work. But do not forget that number 1 is still study. It is better to take work during this period not very seriously - just as an opportunity to practice. It is possible to engage only in studies, but judging by the practice, if such students start their career growth, then with a great delay.

I have already written that the field of activity of an architect is very large. It is important to tune yourself to the place in architecture where a person will feel most harmonious. Choose your niche. It is not at all necessary to strive to become a successful and popular architect. Chase large objects... A good layout designer can earn a lot more than a chief architect. You can do research, teaching, small architectural forms - anything you like, if it's "yours". Be successful in this area and earn a lot. Now there are no low-paid specialties in architecture, and a good specialist receives a high salary. But at the same time, it is very difficult to "make a fortune" by doing only architecture.

An architect's career can develop in absolutely any direction, but for successful development you need constant work on yourself. First of all, self-education; Active participation in public architectural life: visiting lectures, seminars, exhibitions.

- everyday work, interaction with engineers;

The specificity of the profession of an architect is such that for the implementation of creative ideas it is always necessary to attract additional specialists - engineers, designers. The nature of the work can be best seen with an example. Let's take the most common architectural order - an individual residential building (in simple language- cottage). The architect receives the order and starts working with sketches. Makes layouts, facades and coordinates them with the customer. Then comes the architectural project - drawings of plans, facades, drawings in relief, general specifications. This, it seems, is the end of the architect's work, but it is impossible to build a house according to the architectural design. We need construction drawings, projects of engineering systems. This is exactly the job of engineers. A competent architect knows the basics of engineering specialties and foresees the possibility of implementing certain systems in an architectural project. It is best to work on a project in conjunction with designers and engineers, or at least consult during the architectural design phase. Even after completing all related projects, the architect's work can continue. We are talking about construction supervision. At large facilities, the relevant documentation is maintained, at small ones, a person arrives with drawings and a tape measure, and walks around the construction site with a smart look. Often, the final decisions on the choice of finishing materials, drawing of windows and fences are made already during construction, when the architecture is not on paper, but it can be “touched”. In any case, visiting a construction site is very helpful in understanding the whole process of creating an architecture. When designing and building large facilities, things get more complicated, but the essence remains the same.

The workflow can take place in completely different ways: you can sit at work from 9 to 6; you can work in a free schedule; travel to objects, coordinating organizations, subcontractors; work from home as a private architect - as you like. In architectural activity, in my opinion, the most important thing is the result, good architecture, but how it turned out is not so important. You can draw "on your knee" in 5 minutes, or you can sit at the monitor for months.

- the situation in the profession today, trends.

Today Russian architecture is going through a deep crisis. This is recognized by both professionals and ordinary people who are not indifferent to what is happening in the country. By crisis, I mean the following: the architecture of most large projects under construction is simply ugly (just compare what is being built all over the world and what we have), objects of architectural heritage are treacherously destroyed, the change of generations is very difficult (especially among university professors).

The professional environment is also in crisis. Design institutes, as shown Last year, unprofitable. Good positions in large organizations go to relatives or acquaintances, and it is very difficult for even a cool architect to break through the orderly ranks of “their” people. It's also hard in private workshops. There is a lot of competition and not always fair. It is possible to work as a private architect, but the market for private architects is so flooded with non-professionals that it is very difficult to get out of this swamp even a little. Now in architectural activity, if you do not have relatives or high patrons, you have to achieve everything "with sweat and blood."

Fortunately, any crisis ends sooner or later. In my opinion, a new generation of young architects is capable of "raising" Russian architecture. There are all the prerequisites for this: information on modern foreign architecture is available, associations of young architects are emerging, there is an opportunity for study and internship abroad. I believe our Kenzo Tange and Richard Rogers will grow up from the generation that is just about to enter the architectural institute.

Graduation from school is fun for all schoolchildren summer holidays, but for graduates and their parents a headache: where to enter and where to find application for their abilities. The list of the labor market is constantly updated. There are specialties that have long since sunk into oblivion, and there are innovative professions, the very name of which is difficult to pronounce for the older generation. But along with this, there are professions that are very popular, both in the old days and now. Architecture is such a popular traditional area of study. What subjects do you need to take to an architect? Let's figure it out.

Back in ancient times, when mankind had just learned to build, architects were in demand and popular. These were people respected in society. Then the question did not arise for the architect where to study and what subjects are needed for this.

Architectural skill was simply inherited from father to son. There were no corresponding educational institutions yet. But the architects were extremely literate and savvy people. This is evidenced by the centuries-old buildings that have survived to this day. And the skill of the ancient masters can only be envied.

IN modern world architectural skills are studied in many educational institutions. And interest in this profession does not fade away, because construction and design will exist as long as there is a human civilization on our planet. A modern specialist must have not only certain skills and abilities, but also creative thinking and a creative approach to work.

To become an architect, you must graduate from a higher education institution. The architectural institute is usually entered after grade 11. This profession requires endurance, perseverance, the ability to carry out all kinds of calculations and create projects. But at the same time, one cannot do without a flight of imagination and the ability to see and create beauty in this matter.

Varieties of architecture

The profession of an architect is constantly improving and becoming more and more diversified.

There are such types of specialty:

  1. Restoration architect. The sphere of activity of such a specialist includes not only the development of projects of all kinds of structures, but also the restoration of already destroyed monuments of architecture. After all, many such monuments are destroyed over time under the influence of time and natural, and sometimes human factors. The task of the restorer is to restore them qualitatively and at the same time bring them as close as possible to the original. Of course, this is not an easy task. To do such a job with high quality, you need knowledge from various fields. That is why they have been studying architecture for 5 years.
  2. Landscape architect. Such a person is engaged in the design of gardens and parks. This requires deep knowledge not only of architecture, but also in the field of vegetation and agronomy.
  3. Architect-designer. Such a specialist should be able not only to build for centuries, but also to create masterpieces of monumental art, original and beautiful design. Of course, in addition to the skills of an architect, he must possess creative inclinations. After all, it is beautiful appearance the buildings on the outside and the interior on the inside depend on this specialist. The profession is especially in demand, because in addition to the construction projects themselves, the specialist is engaged in the development of the interiors of private houses and apartments.
  4. Main architector. This specialist must clearly understand all the intricacies of his craft. Know all problem areas and eliminate them in a timely manner. In addition, a person must have pronounced leadership skills, because it is his job to organize the work correctly and distribute responsibilities.

What subjects to take

Now we will figure out how to apply for an architect and what items are needed for this to be handed over.

First of all, it is worth mentioning that after the 9th grade, you can also enter an architecture college. There are building colleges that have architectural directions. Of course, taking exams to become an architect in a technical school or college is much easier than going to college. The main requirement for admission to such educational institutions is a high-quality drawing. Moreover, such a drawing must necessarily be voluminous and in several versions:

  • volumetric geometric figure(at the choice of the applicant: a cube, or a ball, or a pyramid, etc.);
  • volumetric drawing of an ornament.

After college, you can start looking for a job, or you can not stop there and continue your studies at the institute. Indeed, when hiring, any employer will give preference to an applicant with a higher education.

To enter the architectural faculty of a university or institute, you only need a complete education (11 classes), confirmed by a certificate.

There are quite a few relevant institutions now. The Faculty of Design and Architecture is very popular. This specialization combines both the engineering profession and the artist's profession. At this faculty, the field of architecture gives a person a complete understanding of the construction business, but the design section includes a full study of art and the acquisition of skills to think artistically and represent a picture.

What you need to take to this faculty:

  • Russian language and literature;
  • history;
  • creative task (what exactly this task will be determined by each university individually).

For admission to an architect-restorer:

  • mathematics;
  • Russian language;
  • or computer science (at the choice of the applicant);
  • all the same creative competition.

The entrance exams for the Faculty of Architecture, regardless of where and in what educational institution they take place, have a lot in common. All institutes, universities and academies require you to USE results on the above subjects. And of course, the creative competition will have to be taken directly at the educational institution.

Education in such institutions is quite interesting. A relatively new practice in some universities has become the tradition of training beginners directly in construction companies (which have a contract with educational institutions). This practice is quite interesting and has shown itself to be very promising. The student can create their own projects, learn from the experience of professionals.

In contact with

Becoming a competent architect is not an easy task that requires lengthy training and titanic efforts.

History of the profession

If you think about how many hundreds and thousands of years there are Pyramids of Egypt, ancient temples and other structures, we can conclude that an architect is one of the most ancient professions. One of the most famous names of those times is Imhotep.

During the Renaissance it becomes especially popular and prestigious. Since Italy was the center of the development of art, it was in this country that the largest number talented specialists.

With the development of science, technology and industry, the scope of the architect's responsibilities has somewhat narrowed. Its main function today is design. Nevertheless, he has the right to control the construction and decoration process.

Why choose the profession of an architect

Becoming is the dream of many young people. There are several significant reasons for this:

  • architecture is not just a field of activity, but a lifestyle;
  • good specialists are respected in society;
  • considering that architecture does not stand still, you will also constantly develop;
  • the specialist has the opportunity to express his thoughts, transferring them to projects;
  • the ability to work independently without bosses and subordinates;
  • the result of long and painstaking work can not only be seen, but also felt;
  • with good designs, architects improve people's lives;
  • despite the need to strictly follow the norms, there is always room for experimentation and innovation;
  • a good architect is always in demand (even when he is retired);
  • the opportunity to work in many areas of activity - from the construction of small residential buildings to large industrial facilities.

What you need to know to become an architect

In order to design beautiful and reliable buildings, not only education is important, but also innate talent. Nevertheless, it is also impossible to become a good specialist without a certain theoretical base. What do you need to know to become an architect? Here are the highlights:

  • computer design programs;
  • basic calculation formulas;
  • the basics of environmental and geodetic norms, as well as the construction of maps;
  • preparation and reading of technical documentation;
  • building codes.

Job responsibilities

Asking the question of how to become an architect, you must first understand the essence of the profession. So, the duties of a specialist include the following list of tasks:

  • construction of drawings, budgeting, production of layouts, as well as the development of other documentation related to the building;
  • design of the facility, the construction of which is planned;
  • continuous supervision of the building construction process in order to determine its compliance with the design documentation;
  • making decisions in case of revealing any deviations;
  • contacts with project customers and material suppliers.

Basic requirements for applicants for the position

For those looking for an answer to the question of how to become an architect, it will be useful to find out what the requirements are for applicants for the position. So, if we are talking about a solid company, then it is important to have the following characteristics:

  • higher education in the relevant profile;
  • work experience in a similar position for at least two years;
  • fluency in popular computer-aided design and simulation programs;
  • knowledge of workflow and the ability to correctly draw up paper;
  • knowledge foreign languages(if the company works with foreign counterparties);
  • knowledge of the latest trends in the field of building materials.

Where to get education

Quite often you can hear the phrase from young people: "I want to become an architect!" Naturally, for this you need to get an appropriate education. It should be borne in mind that when entering a university, you must have certain skills drawing and sketching, which simply cannot be obtained within the framework of the school curriculum. Therefore, the issue of preparation should be taken care of in advance. This is the most the right way become an architect. How many years will the training take? You will have to spend 5-6 years at the institute. But a good architect learns and improves himself all his life.

Of course, those who have been studying at an art school since childhood have the greatest chances of admission. Nevertheless, if you have natural abilities and desire, then the basics of academic drawing can be mastered within 1-2 years. It is worth paying special attention to the image of still lifes and plaster natures (these tasks are most often encountered upon admission). It is also worth tightening up drawing with a tutor.

Usually the competition in universities is quite large. Naturally, not everyone will be able to get the coveted place. But this is not a reason to despair, because there are also colleges and technical schools where this specialty is taught. In addition, with a high school diploma, you can also go to college. Of course, the training will take a long time, but this is a real chance that you can take advantage of.

Few people know that it is quite possible to become an architect without special education. So, you can get a job in a construction or design bureau, where you will simultaneously receive a salary and receive the knowledge and experience necessary for further career growth. After about 10 years, you will be able to obtain the appropriate license. The main thing is talent and desire.

Profile subjects

Many young people are interested in the question of what subjects you need to know in order to become an architect. Of course, the list may differ slightly depending on which university you choose. Nevertheless, the standard set of disciplines is as follows:

  • Russian language and literature (standard exam for admission to any university);
  • mathematics (a very important subject for an architect, but the management of some institutions replaces it with history, believing that creativity is more important than exact sciences);
  • creative exam (includes drawing, composition and painting tasks).

How to Become a Good Architect

It is important not only to get an education as an architect, but to become a good and demanded specialist. This task takes a tremendous amount of effort. Therefore, if you have firmly decided: "I will become an architect!", You need to do the following:

  • Choose carefully educational institution... It is necessary to do this not on the basis of "where they will take", but "where they teach better." Chat with current students or graduates from different universities, and also try to get information about training programs and compare them with each other.
  • Prepare in advance for admission. Approximately two years before graduation, you should begin to deeply engage in drawing and sketching. You can hire a tutor, but it would be best to enroll in university preparatory courses.
  • Start working as a student. This way you will gain invaluable experience, which, when multiplied by fundamental theoretical knowledge, will make you a valuable specialist.
  • Many ambitious graduates strive to open their own architecture firm as soon as they graduate. This is a wrong step. It will be much better if you work under the guidance of an experienced architect for the first few years, from whom you can learn from management work.
  • Develop your style. This can be done by carefully studying the work of famous masters.
  • Do not miss a single festival, exhibition or other events where you can express yourself. Even if you don't have the experience to show your skills, be sure to attend such an event to get acquainted with the latest trends in architecture.

What prevents you from being a good architect

When thinking about how to become a good architect, it is worth knowing not only those things that contribute, but also those that hinder the achievement of the goal. The second category includes the following:
