Applied magistracy and academic. What is the difference between a bachelor's degree and a master's degree - how many years to study, how to get a diploma

Modern technologies are developing very quickly, which means that the requirements imposed by employers on their employees are increasing every day.

Many specialties in demand in modern industries require much more high level qualifications than before. A modern specialist must be able to operate high-tech equipment, understand the drawings, be able to read instructions on foreign languages and work with information systems. In fact, it should be a highly qualified specialist with the knowledge of an engineer and the skills of a worker.

Educational programs of technical schools and colleges, aimed primarily at mastering practical methods and techniques of work, cannot provide training for specialists of this level. At the same time, graduates of universities, having received a good academic base over the years of study, often do not have experience of working in real working conditions... Therefore, it became necessary to create on the basis of secondary professional and higher educational institutions a new quality level of higher education - applied bachelor's degree.

What is an Applied Bachelor's Degree?

The concept of “applied baccalaureate” began to be actively used only a few years ago - in 2009. This level of education is based on educational programs of secondary vocational education (secondary vocational education), focused on mastering practical skills in production, in combination with higher education programs focused on obtaining serious theoretical training. At the same time, the volume of the practical part of the program, including laboratory and practical lessons, educational and industrial practice, is at least half of the total time allotted for training. In other words, the task of the applied baccalaureate is to make sure that together with the diploma of higher education young people received a full set of knowledge and skills necessary to start working in their specialty immediately, without additional internships.

Since, in fact, applied bachelor's programs are aimed at in-depth training of workers and specialists for high-tech sectors of the economy, employers are very interested in the experiment being successful. In many regions, they already accept Active participation in developing curricula and plans. Wherein Internship is carried out in employing organizations as part of the development of the main types of professional activities by students.

Colleges, technical schools and higher educational institutions (institutes and universities) provide training in applied bachelor's programs. You can enter there both after the 11th grade of the school (in this case, studying in the applied bachelor's degree will last 4 years), and after receiving specialized secondary vocational education (in this case, training will take place according to an abbreviated program for an individual curriculum). At the same time, the applied bachelor's degree does not exclude the possibility of continuing further studies - if desired, its graduates will be able to enter the master's degree.

On August 9, 2009, the Government of the Russian Federation issued Decree No. 667 "On conducting an experiment to create an applied baccalaureate in educational institutions of secondary vocational and higher vocational education." The participants in the experiment were identified based on competitive selection organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia in 2010 for the purpose of testing educational programs, interaction between educational institutions and employers, as well as improving the quality of vocational education in accordance with the needs of the labor market.

Practice-oriented bachelor's programs are effective, since they are developed jointly with representatives of employers, who formulate requirements for competencies and graduates.

Several years ago, there was a transition of Russian higher education to a two-stage system. Its essence is that at first a student receives a bachelor's degree, and then can enter a master's degree. On numerous questions related to the new form of education, we asked the head of the magistracy department of the BSTU named after V.G. Shukhova I. V. Yarmolenko.

- Irina Vladimirovna, tell us first what is a master's degree?

According to the Bologna Process (the Bologna Process is the process of convergence and harmonization of the educational systems of European countries in order to create a single space for higher education), Master's degree is the second level of a two-tier higher education system. There are two of them, in accordance with the program of reforming the Higher School of Russia. The first is bachelor's degree. Graduates of bachelor's programs and graduates continue their education in the magistracy.
The main objective of the Master's program is to prepare professionals for a successful career in international and Russian companies, as well as analytical, consulting, research and teaching activities.

V modern Russia master's programs began to be created about 15 years ago. This was a reflection of a worldwide trend towards the unification of higher education programs and diplomas. Meeting in 1999 in Bologna, ministers of education from 31 countries signed a declaration on the recognition of a two-tier system of higher education: bachelor - master. By implementing the principles of the Bologna Declaration, European countries, including Russia, Germany, Sweden, Finland and others, have begun the process of reforming their higher education systems.

- If the bachelor's degree is completed in one profile (or direction), and then the graduate decided to retrain. Is it possible?

As well as documents giving the right to benefits established by law Russian Federation or their notarized copies. For admission to a number of areas, a medical certificate is required.

Prepared interview by Victoria Goryainova

Having switched to the Bologna education system, Russia began to master new higher education programs - bachelor's and master's degrees. Most universities began to prepare students for these programs. You can study for a bachelor's degree in four years. After that, the student either goes to work or continues his studies in the magistracy. It lasts another two years. The future master's degree deepens the acquired knowledge. After graduating from the master's degree, he can also engage in full-fledged scientific activities.

Undergraduate

Undergraduate students study for four years. The base of admission is complete secondary education, that is, eleven classes of school. Also, a graduate of a technical school or college can go to study for a bachelor's degree. In this case, the training period will be three years.

Bachelor students, upon graduation, receive higher education diplomas and a bachelor's degree.

But now students should learn to understand what an applied bachelor's degree and an academic bachelor's degree are, since recently these programs have also appeared in the Russian education system.

Strategy 2020

Since 2010, slightly more than 50 Russian technical schools and universities have been experimenting with applied and academic undergraduate programs. What is the applied training of qualified personnel with higher education. At its core, it is an alternative for secondary vocational education.

Applied Bachelor's Degree became part of the finalization of the government program "Strategy 2020", aimed at the long-term socio-economic development of the country.

When the concept of “applied baccalaureate” appeared in the country, it was assumed that it would also be taught for four years. Later, experts tended towards a three-year training program. Now they have settled on the first training option.

What does Applied Bachelor's Degree mean? Now this concept includes two aspects:

  1. Training of workers who will have a higher education.
  2. Bachelor's degree, which marks an extended applied part, focused on student employment.

Higher educational institutions of the country prefer the second option.

The meaning of the applied bachelor's degree

The main thing that attracts students to the applied bachelor's program is the opportunity to find a profitable job after graduation. As you know, a bachelor student does not have a specific qualification. During the study of the applied bachelor's program, the student studies the same basic part as in the regular study, but the additional part is more practice-oriented. As a result, the student receives a clear qualification.

Training students in a specific profession, teaching computer skills and basic subjects aimed at ensuring the activities of a leader, providing appropriate practice and a diploma of higher education - this is what an applied bachelor's degree means. And trained personnel are in great demand in the modern labor market.

Studying in three or four years?

So what is an applied bachelor's degree, in essence? It is a basic education supplemented by applied qualifications in a specific profession.

Previously, there were disputes about three or four years of education. As a result, it was decided to stop at four years of study, since bachelor students must receive an appropriate academic level of study.

When the system was just introduced, it was proposed to rename training programs in colleges and technical schools into applied bachelor's degree. The terms of study in these educational institutions are 3-3.5 years. But the idea turned out to be untenable. In the end, the applied bachelor's degree remains a bachelor's degree, that is, it involves obtaining a higher education. Technical schools and colleges do not have this qualification.

Academic Bachelor's Degree

Having figured out what an applied bachelor's degree is, and that it is focused on preparing specialists for working conditions, you can proceed to the concept of an academic bachelor's degree. This training program aims to create a theoretical foundation for a large number disciplines. Practical activities at the same time, it is absent, since it is assumed that the graduate will receive basic skills already at work. This form of training also lasts for four years.

Each student decides for himself what qualification he needs - academic or applied. What does Applied and Academic Bachelor's Degree mean? The first is focused on practical knowledge, while the second is theory-oriented. Academic bachelors are purposefully trained for research work. They are set up to go on to study further - for a master's degree.

Undergraduate Difference

If you look at what an applied bachelor's degree and an academic bachelor's degree are, it turns out that the first is a worker with a higher education, and the second is traditional form higher education.

Further admission to the magistracy is different for students of applied and academic bachelor's degrees. "Academicians" undergo a certain competitive selection, and "applied students" before entering should first work in their specialty for a certain number of years.

So, we have sorted out what the applied baccalaureate and academic baccalaureate mean. The difference between them is the presence practical knowledge, abilities and skills. "Appliedmen" are narrow specialists with practical skills in a particular field. “Academicians”, on the other hand, have a broad outlook in a certain area of knowledge, but they lack practical skills.

Which Bachelor's Degree to Choose?

We figured out what applied and academic bachelor's degree means. Nevertheless, yesterday's schoolchildren face a choice: where to go next? Of course, you can go to a regular bachelor's degree, or choose an applied or academic one.

The undergraduate program involves the acquisition of theoretical knowledge. There are also practical exercises, but there are not many of them. For example, undergraduate students will have the inscription "Applied Informatics" in their higher education diplomas.

What is it when a student receives the necessary practical knowledge base and subsequent employment, coupled with higher education. By the time he graduates, he will already have an idea of the working conditions. To some extent, this is still the same specialty, but only in a certain specialty. In this case, something specific will already be indicated in the student's diploma, for example, "C ++ programmer".

If we consider what an applied bachelor's degree is, then it is providing students with training with mastering a wide range of competencies in such areas as education, culture and social sphere... The specialist must be prepared for teaching, research or cultural and educational activities.

So which one to choose? The fact is that now in the country there are no conditions for the preparation of the most ready-made working personnel, as it is assumed under the "applied bachelor's degree" program. In this case, a regular bachelor's degree is preferable. If only because specialists leave the buildings of higher educational institutions, having a fairly broad outlook in the chosen field of knowledge. They can go to work or go to graduate school, doing science.

The academic bachelor's degree has more advantages in this sense. Specialists have a broad outlook and can get a job not only in a certain specialty, but also in a related one. If there is no practice, then it's not so bad. The “applied people” do not have enough of it either. There is no necessary base in the country. Not yet.

What to do next?

Having learned what an applied and academic bachelor's degree is, comparing these concepts with a regular bachelor's degree, you begin to ask yourself the following question: "Where to work then?" Getting a normal, serious position with a bachelor's degree of any degree is quite problematic.

The specialist must acquire full-fledged theoretical knowledge in the area of interest, and then learn to apply it in the workplace. Only in this case he will have the opportunity to creatively approach work tasks.

As a result, while the program is aimed at learning to press the button. These are practical skills. But what this button is useful for, what it gives and how to use it correctly, this is already a theory that you should know. Without full-fledged theoretical knowledge, a real specialist will not work even if he does an excellent job in practice.

Having considered what an applied and academic bachelor's degree is, it is better to give preference to the second type of training.

Finally

Per last years the system of higher education in our country has undergone significant changes. Many new trends and directions have appeared. In addition to studying for bachelor's and master's degrees, students began to be trained in applied and academic bachelor's programs. What to choose and where to go to study further, everyone decides for himself.

Higher education or higher professional education is not compulsory all over the world, but it is precisely this level, upon reaching which a person has fully mastered all the subtleties of his professional direction.

A person can develop further in a scientific environment, receiving a scientific degree, but, most importantly, he fully developed... it the most important moment... Often among people you can hear phrases that people with higher education are very different from people without it in terms of outlook on life, and in the ability to express their thoughts, and in behavior, and even in the way of thinking. One can agree with this. Since it is high school that teaches life, in all respects.

What is Academic Baccalaureate?

Not so long ago (2014) in Russia there was a division of the bachelor's degree into academic and applied. The division was introduced intentionally, to reflect the specific focus of the program that the student listened to.

A bachelor is a degree or qualification awarded to students who have mastered and received a diploma first stage of higher education... Bachelor's degree, in turn, is the very process of learning in high school upon completion of which students receive a bachelor's degree diploma and related qualifications. At the end of the training, to confirm the success of the study, the writing is provided thesis and her public defense before the commission.

The main difference between a bachelor's degree and a master's degree or specialty is its goals and practical orientation... During the bachelor's degree, the student learns all the basic knowledge and necessary skills that will be useful in professional activities at work in the specialty.

The master's program is based on the study of more difficult moments, connections, tasks in the main specialized subjects. This complication is due to the fact that after graduating from the magistracy, you can continue your studies in graduate school. Then doctoral studies, that is, continue scientific activity and receive academic degrees... Thus, both the master's and bachelor's programs receive a fundamental knowledge base, only in the master's program it lends itself to a more in-depth consideration. It cannot be said which of these two steps is better or worse. Here the choice is only for the applicant and depends on his views on life and his future. But if you still care about your level of literacy and education, go to study at universities.

Mastering the academic bachelor's program is focused on obtaining the entire fundamental base of theoretical knowledge in the chosen specialty. After graduation, the student is more focused on continuing his research activities and enrolling in a magistracy. The academic baccalaureate continues the past traditions of the content of higher education, it can be called classic. Most often, in the first two courses, they simultaneously study profile subjects with general education, only at a higher level, outside the school base, relying on it.

This stage of education follows general secondary or vocational education and presupposes mastering theoretical basis the chosen direction and mastery of all practical skills and abilities.

The higher education system has two stages. The first is to obtain a bachelor's level, and the second is to study for a master's degree with the achievement of a master's level. In some universities, you can also find the specialist level. This is something intermediate between a bachelor's and a master's. Now, according to the requirements for participants in the Bologna process, the qualification "specialist" is equated to "master".

Ideally, these two steps are inseparable and follow one after the other. But this is not always the case. After receiving a bachelor's degree, most often this period of study lasts at least four years, you can complete your studies at a university. A few years ago, in post-Soviet countries, a bachelor's degree was considered an incomplete higher education, but today it is already a full-fledged completed higher education, as in the whole world. Based on this, it becomes completely logical that the bachelor's degree must provide the student with all the necessary basic and special knowledge of the profile.

What is an Applied Bachelor's Degree?

A new introduction is the Applied Bachelor's Degree. It is based on the training program, namely practical professional activity... Thus, professional workers and high-level specialists are trained who will be able to understand how to work with complex machines, electronic systems and devices. After graduation, people can immediately go to work in production without additional training.

This basis makes it possible to solve problems of both theoretical and practical nature in their profile, which is necessary for further work and career growth.

During their studies, great emphasis is placed on industrial practices, which makes students more in demand among employers.

Common features of Academic and Applied Bachelor's Degree

Academic and applied undergraduate studies have in common the length of study. Undergraduate studies, regardless of type, last four years. At the end of the program, a diploma of completed higher education is issued, indicating the type of bachelor's degree. In addition, there is the same acquisition of all the necessary specialized knowledge, as it was before, in order to correspond to the level of completed higher education.

The main differences

The main differences between the applied bachelor's degree and the academic one are as follows:

  1. An academic bachelor's degree is a theoretical basis, an applied one is practical skills.
  2. Academic bachelor's degree involves continuing education in a master's degree; applied bachelor's degree - most often involves the completion of studies and a job.
  3. Graduates of the academic bachelor's degree are selected on a competitive basis for admission to the master's degree; graduates of the applied bachelor's degree get a job, work out a certain length of service in their specialty, and only after that they can continue their studies in the magistracy.

As a result of the information received, it can be noted that these types of undergraduate studies are practically dissimilar, although they have the same duration of study.

Modern technologies are developing very quickly, which means that the requirements imposed by employers on their employees are increasing every day. Many specialties that are in demand in modern industries require a significantly higher level of qualifications than before. A modern specialist must be able to operate high-tech equipment, understand the drawings, be able to read instructions in foreign languages and work with information systems. In fact, it should be a highly qualified specialist with the knowledge of an engineer and the skills of a worker.

Educational programs of technical schools and colleges, aimed primarily at mastering practical methods and techniques of work, cannot provide training for specialists of this level. At the same time, graduates of universities, having received a good academic base over the years of study, often do not have experience of working in real production conditions. Therefore, it became necessary to create a new high-quality level of higher education on the basis of secondary vocational and higher educational institutions - applied bachelor's degree.

About an experiment to create an applied bachelor's degree

On August 9, 2009, the Government of the Russian Federation issued Decree No. 667 "On conducting an experiment to create an applied baccalaureate in educational institutions of secondary vocational and higher vocational education." The participants in the experiment were identified on the basis of a competitive selection organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia in 2010 with the aim of testing educational programs, interaction between educational institutions and employers, as well as improving the quality of vocational education in accordance with the needs of the labor market.

To participate in the competition, it was necessary to submit one applied bachelor's program, developed on the basis of the federal state educational standard... In addition, it was necessary to justify the need for training personnel under this program by the needs of enterprises in the region and to support the justification with an agreement on cooperation between the educational institution and the employer.

In total, 125 applications were submitted for the competition - 51 from higher educational institutions and 74 - from institutions of secondary vocational education. After a thorough examination of applications, 102 educational institutions (37 universities and 65 colleges) from 47 constituent entities of the Russian Federation were admitted to participate in the competition.

Most applications for the creation of applied bachelor's programs were submitted in the following areas: "Metallurgy, mechanical engineering and material processing" (17 applications), "Informatics and computer technology" (17 applications), "Economics and management" (16 applications), "Education and pedagogy "(14 applications)," Energy, power engineering and electrical engineering "(9 applications). As a result, 49 educational institutions located throughout the country received the right to participate in the experiment to create an applied baccalaureate.

It is still too early to speak about any results of the experiment. At the moment, work is underway to clarify curricula and plans, mechanisms of interaction with employers are being worked out and regulations are being prepared, which are necessary to give the level of applied bachelor's degree an official status. The final results of the experiment on the implementation of the applied bachelor's level will be summed up in 2014.
